Walt Disney World has decided to drop a Florida Boy Scouts council as a recognized charity for its employees, according to a Scouting memo posted on a gay-friendly website.

The policy change, announced months after the national scouting organization said it would accept openly gay Scouts but preserve a ban on gay adult leaders, means Walt Disney World will not recognize the volunteer hours its 60,000-plus employees give the Central Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).


The corporate giant — whose Orlando park is a major destination for “Gay Day” events in early June — will also no longer offer the council or its units grant funding, apparently a signal that the BSA decision, by keeping the adult ban, did not go far enough.

A BSA spokesman confirmed the action Thursday.

“While Disney does not provide support to the national council or directly to local councils of the BSA, they did occasionally provide small grants to local Scout troops and packs through an employee program that recognized the volunteer service hours of its employees,” said Deron Smith, director of BSA public relations.

“We believe every child deserves the opportunity to be a part of the Scouting experience and we are disappointed in this decision because it will impact our ability to serve kids,” he said.

A call to Walt Disney World was not immediately returned.

The People's Republic of California  -  A California high school student who believes he is a girl trapped in a boy's body just made the girls' softball team.

Pat Cordova-Goff, 17, a strapping senior at Azusa High School, in Azusa, an hour east of Los Angeles, can play with and against girls because of a September change in state law went into effect last month. The law requires that, “a pupil be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.”

Goff, who is a cheerleader at the school, played freshman baseball when he considered himself a boy. He found out Friday that he made the cut.

“We feel really confident about her ability,” Azusa Unified Superintendent Linda Kaminski told local newspaper San Gabriel Valley Tribune.  “No.  1 as a district, we want to ensure access to everyone, but we’re also committed to placing students on the team on their merits ...Based on her skills, Pat did make the team.”

The law was signed by Comrade Gov. Jerry Brown amid a gender debate that also included disagreement over which bathrooms students could use. Supporters have said that the law will help cut down on bullying against transgender students.

Officials for Azusa High School said parents of students and others have been supportive of Cordova-Goff trying out for the team.

“Parents had questions and we answered them as best we could,” Azusa High School principal Ramiro Rubalcaba told FoxNews.com. “My experience is that the parents have been pleased.

“Some students and players may feel uncomfortable but that only because this is something new to them but I believe they are all going to be accepting,” he added. “And I think the team is going to bring home a championship. That’s my prediction.”

Some feel that having Cordova-Goff play with young female athletes puts out an unfair advantage and sets a bad precedent.

“It’s intolerable of this young man to not accept an equal standing of girls playing girls,” Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, told FoxNews.com. “It is categorically unfair to biological girls to have to compete with a sexually-confused young man with stronger upper body strength, who makes the game board decidedly 'unequal.'"

“This mixed-up, in-your-face cross-dressing agenda is pushing more parents out of California public schools, which now have ten sexual indoctrination laws leading children astray," he added.

The team roster was to be originally posted on Wednesday, but unnamed sources at the school told the Valley Tribune it was held up because Cordova-Goff was not going to make the team, and he only did so after meetings involving an attorney and school district officials. School officials denied this was the case.

Anatoly Pakhomov said homosexuals were welcome at the Games - as long as they "respect Russian law" and "don't impose their habits on others".

Opposition leader Boris Nemtsov said there were several gay bars in Sochi reports BBC News.

In June 2013, Russia passed a law banning the promotion of "non-traditional" sexuality to under-18s - widely seen as an attack on gay rights.

The controversial new law made providing information on homosexuality to under-18s a crime, punishable by a fine.

Anatoly Pakhomov, a member of President Vladimir Putin's United Russia party, told Panorama that gay people would be welcome at the Games.

"Our hospitality will be extended to everyone who respects the laws of the Russian Federation and doesn't impose their habits on others", he said.

But when asked whether gay people had to hide their sexuality in Sochi, the Mayor said: "No, we just say that it is your business, it's your life. But it's not accepted here in the Caucasus where we live. We do not have them in our city."

When challenged, the mayor admitted that he was not certain there were no gay people in Sochi: "I am not sure, but I don't bloody know them."

BBC Panorama reporter John Sweeney visited a gay bar in Sochi the night before he interviewed the mayor.

Most people did not want to be filmed and those that did were cautious about what they said.

Drag queen Madame Zhu-Zha said there was a gay community in the city and in other areas of Russia.

"There are very many clubs for gay people in Moscow - in Sochi we have two gay clubs as well. In some places there's serious prejudice against gay people. In other places it's not as bad."

Six siblings from a "traditional Asian Muslim family" in Lancashire have been jailed after attempting to kidnap the white lesbian lover of one of their sisters, threatening to kill her because she had "messed with the wrong Muslims".

Sentencing them to between three-and-a-half and six years in prison, the judge said they had been motivated by religious and racial hatred as well as disapproval of their sister's sexuality.

"This case is about power and control," Judge Graham Knowles, QC, told the family at Preston crown court on Friday. "It's about striking terror into the heart, in order to control not just the body but also the will," reports the UK Guardian.

Almost three years ago Nazma Ditta, one of nine children from Blackburn, began a secret relationship with Sarah Harrison when both women worked at a clothes shop in Blackburn, Preston crown court heard.

Unhappy that Nazma, now 28, was in a same sex relationship – and with a white non-Muslim woman – six of Nazma's siblings plotted to break up the relationship. They claimed a teacher at a mosque had told them to "take action now or it might be too late" and had given permission "to be violent", the court heard.

The family wanted Nazma to enter into an arranged marriage with a cousin or another man, and discussed putting her on a plane to Pakistan, the judge noted. They concocted the plot via the online text messaging service WhatsApp, referring to it as "our mission as a family".

Three of Nazma's sisters, one wearing a full face veil, were caught on CCTV kicking and punching Harrison, 35, after she finished work at USC Clothing in Blackburn town centre on 20 June last year.

They were shown dragging her to the floor by her hair and snatching her handbag, before rifling through it to take out Nazma's passport and other things belonging to her. Beforehand, text messages exchanged between the siblings referred to "battering that bitch". One, sent by Nayyar Mehmood, 36, the second oldest sibling, urged her siblings to attack Harrison and warned them: "A kaffir [non-believer] is taking over." Another message referred to Harrison as a "honky", offensive slang for a white person.

CCTV shown to the court showed sisters Nighat Morris, 39, the eldest child in the family, along with Atfah Ditta, 32, and Ghazala Ditta, 31, trying and failing to bundle Harrison into the back of a car before driving away. All three were sentenced to five years and four months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm, attempted kidnap and robbery.

They were guarded during the attack by Tahmoor Ditta, 26, one of Nazma's brothers. He had a bradawl "clenched in his fist with the spike poking out between his fingers" which he used to try to scare off one of Harrisons's colleagues, who tried to intervene in the attack. He received a six-year sentence for conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm, attempted kidnap, robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and battery.

Both Harrison and her colleague told police Ghazala shouted: "Get her in, get her in, you've messed with the wrong Muslims, we're going to kill you."

Two other sisters, Nayyar Mehmood, 38, and Tosif Ditta, 35, received three-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm.

All were ordered not to go near Nazma or Harrison, who are still a couple, until the judge discharges the restraining order.

The court heard Harrison has had to quit her job and sell her home for fear of reprisals. In a witness impact statement read to the court she said she was terrified that she would be the victim of an acid attack.

Nazma kept her sexuality a secret until 19 June last year, shortly after she moved out of the family home. "Knowing that the family would react very badly to the news that she was gay and that she was in an on-going relationship, Nazma Ditta had been slowly moving her belongings from the family home over to Miss Harrison's home in Blackpool since December 2012," said prosecuting barrister Richard Haworth.

"The family had a traditional arranged marriage planned for her and had already suggested a suitor – her cousin, to whom the family believed she was betrothed, and whom she in fact had already rejected," said Haworth. "In April 2013 three further suitors were suggested to her and a date of February 2014 was mentioned for her marriage and that of her two siblings, including Tasawar [a brother, aged 29], who the family are aware is gay." The Dittas were a "traditional Asian Muslim family", he added.

Nazma agreed to a marriage but resolved to run away and live with Harrison, the court heard. On 10 June she called Tasawar from a withheld number, telling him she was gay but not mentioning her relationship with Harrison. On 11 June Nazma had an "emotional"meeting with Tasawar, Ghazala and their mother, Rani, who was originally charged as part of the conspiracy to kidnap Harrison. (The charges against Rani were dropped earlier this year when the prosecution agreed not to submit any evidence in relation to her if six of her children pleaded guilty.)

After that meeting the family "closed ranks and told or cajoled and emotionally blackmailed" Nazma, said Haworth. She received abusive text messages from her siblings. One, from Tasawar, said: "I am dead to you, Delete my number. I hope you are happy with Sarah." One of her sisters, 31-year-old Ghazala, then texted to call Nazma a "selfish stupid bitch. Just wait until we get hold of you."

Her husband, a white man called Stuart Morris, was called to give evidence on Friday, and claimed that the Dittas welcomed him into their family. "Race, religion, sexuality has never been an issue in this family," he told the court, saying that not only was one of the sons – Tasawar, gay, but that one of the other daughters had been in a lesbian relationship while at university.

The siblings on trial claim they acted because they we had "genuine, deep seated concern as to Nazma's welfare," and "acting out of concern for their parents", said Ricky Holland, defending Aftah Ditta, 32, a university educated mother of two young children, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm.

After the sentencing, gay rights activist Peter Tatchell said: "We regularly get reports from lesbian and gay muslim people who say they have been threatened, intimidated or beaten up by family members who disapprove of their sexuality.

"It is a minority problem but it is very worrying that the victims are so fearful that they don't seek prosecution.

"It would be really helpful if muslim organisations and mosques spoke out and spoke out more frequently against all honour based violence, including that which targets lesbian, gay and transgender Muslims."

Professors and academics will discuss holocaust eroticism, lesbian cowboys, and the “Violent Ethics of Whiteness,” at the Modern Language Association’s (MLA) annual convention starting today.

Illinois' Northwestern University’s Phyllis Lassner, a writing professor, will present “Erotic Terror in Auschwitz: An American Tale,” on the 1994 novel The Kommandant’s Mistress, which depicts “an erotically violent relationship between a Jewish woman prisoner and an S.S. perpetrator born in Auschwitz and ending in the United States.”

The MLA, which is most notable for their widely used grammatical style guide, seeks to provide “opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy,” reports Campus Reform.

The full discussion on the popular television show Girls, titled “Girls and the F Word: Twenty-First-Century Representations of Women's Lives” will have three sessions discussing “The Politics of Dressing and Nakedness,” dating, and “Popular Music and Issues of Identity” in the show.

Another popular discussion topic is queer themes in literature, including the panels "Lesbian Cowboys: Queering the Wild West through Blood Memory and Literary Activism,” “Is everything queer?,” “Between ‘Gay’ and ‘Queer’,” and “Wild, Queer, Vulnerable.”

Contemporary political issues will also be discussed at the convention, including “Beards and Breasts: The Performative Protest Politics of La Barbe and Femen,” and “The Literary Histories of Barack Obama's Dreams from My Father.”

The discussion topic “Literature and Life after Capitalism: Socialism, Barbarism, Communism, or Just More Capitalism?” will feature a “roundtable on literature, anti-capitalist activism, and projects of the future.”

KARACHI, Pakistan — In one of Karachi’s most posh neighborhoods, only half of the 500,000 residents paid their property, maintenance and water taxes last year.

As a result, the Clifton Cantonment board, like Pakistan itself, is in serious financial trouble.

In a bid for a solution — and some publicity — the Clifton board borrowed a creative idea that alleviated tax woes in neighboring India: It hired a team of transgendered tax collectors to go door to door to embarrass the rich until they pay.

Transgendered people, known as TGs in Pakistan, carry a social stigma in the country, and their presence rattles the rich. For many of the TGs hired by the Clifton board, tax collecting is their first salaried job, and two of them still work as sex workers.

“Neighbors will come out and say, ‘Oh, what’s happening?’ and the bad name the person will get, this will maybe convince them to pay taxes,” said Aziz Suharwardy, the board’s vice president. “And that’s exactly what happens.”

The TGs have collected $100,000 in about nine months, 10 times the cost of the program. Still, the TG’s collection barely puts a dent in the board’s $5 million tax revenue shortfall.

After Ron showed us the application, we wondered why they were collecting this data. So I went down to Bellevue College and got some answers from the LGBTQ Center adviser, Colin Donovan.

“We started collecting the data this fall quarter. It’s about being able to track how well GLBTQ, and gender variant students, are doing in school and how we can design better services, better classes, better programs to make sure these students succeed. Up until this point there has been no way to track how that’s done.”

The data is 100 percent private and not shared with anyone, and for now will only be used internally.

This new data collecting system was accepted by all community and technical colleges in Washington state.

Petri Muhlhauser is involved in the school’s LGBTQ Center leadership program. She says sometimes LGBTQ students have different needs.

The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) warned its faithful here that departing from Sunni teachings would cause disunity and fighting among Muslims, which would destroy the bonds of the ummah and end in adherents being conquered by the “enemies of Islam”, reports The Malay Mail Online.

“Remember that any efforts towards halting these teachings is in a sense included in the ‘jihad’ because it counts as defending the sanctity of the religious teachings inherited from our Prophet Muhammad,” JAKIM said in its sermon, which is issued to mosques nationwide.

“Meanwhile, any efforts to breathe life to slander by spreading the Syiah teachings is among the practices which are not only misguided, but also misguiding.”

Shiah is often spelled as Syiah in Malaysia; its followers have been grouped with lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) whom JAKIM has previously branded religious deviants and a threat to orthodox Islam here.

After a Kuwaiti official said the country may start using routine health screenings to detect homosexuality in expatriates seeking entry, Kuwaiti authorities announced their intention to increase enforcement of anti-gay legislation in both Kuwait and the Gulf countries.

For starters, Kuwaiti authorities are planning to propose a law mandating that foreign workers seeking to enter all Gulf states be required to pass a sexual orientation examination in addition to the standard medical examination.

 

Those found to be homosexual would be denied entry, according to a report by MEMRI says the Times of Israel.

Amnesty International condemned the proposal, urging Kuwait and the Gulf states to refrain from passing discriminatory legislation.

 

The Kuwaiti press also criticized the proposal, through parliamentarians were said to support it.

 

“The decision to prevent homosexuals from entering is good, and helps eliminate foreign phenomena in our society,” MEMRI quoted Kuwaiti MP Hussein Qawi’an as saying.

 

Another MP, Khalil al-Saleh, reportedly described the proposal as “preserving moral values and setting a boundary for this phenomenon, which is unacceptable in most societies.”

 

He added that the move did not limit personal liberty, but enforced moral and cultural norms.

A third parliamentarian, Sa’ud al-Hariji, said the proposal was “a sharia duty,” while a fourth, Hamoud al-Hamdan, said it protected Gulf societies against diseases brought by foreign workers who engage in “immoral practices.”

 

In Kuwait, convicted homosexuals under 21 may be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. In August, the Kuwaiti parliament appointed a special committee to discuss “negative social phenomena,” chiefly homosexuality, which was described as “a sick phenomenon” that requires treatment, supervision, and even punishment.

male friend to donate the sperm they needed for artificial insemination at home.

(UK Daily Star)  -  Civil partners Lisa and Carrie-Ann Beaney currently live in a single B&B room with their four children, and claim that they are too stressed to work because of homophobic bullying.

Lisa, 30, quit her job in McDonald's after just three months because it made her too anxious, while Carrie-Ann, 23, has never worked at all.

And due to tough new benefit cap rules their housing payments were slashed and the pair were evicted from their £850-a-month rented home.

However, their £608-a-week B&B room is paid for by the taxpayer, and makes up a £53,000-a-year benefits handout on top of income support and child benefit.

The pair now want want the council to give them a bigger house for their brood.

They argue they would be able to work if they weren't bullied about their sexuality - and afford a house themselves.

Lisa said: “It does feel like we were persecuted against because of our sexuality and I think the council needs to show us some sympathy.

“They guaranteed us that they would be able to find us a house as soon as we were out of the private house, but we are still here.

“The best they’ve come up with is privately rented property but we wouldn’t be able to afford it and the same thing would happen again.

The couple, from Ashford, Kent, have also posted YouTube clips of them happily dancing in the home where they claim they were made miserable by abuse.

Lisa already had son Devon, seven, and Carrie-Ann had son Dillon, eight, from their previous heterosexual relationships.
