Secretary of State John Kerry complained on Sunday's edition of NBC News' Meet the Press that Vladimir Putin was playing by "19th century" rules, not 21st century norms, in his invasion of the Ukranian region of Crimea. 

Insisting that "President Putin is not operating from a place of strength here," Kerry lashed out:

"You just don’t in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pre-text, It is serious in terms of sort of the modern manner with which nations are going to resolve problems. There are all kinds of other options still available to Russia. There still are. President Obama wants to emphasize to the Russians that there are a right set of choices that can still be made to address any concerns they have about Crimea, about their citizens, but you don’t choose to invade a country in order to do that."

Meet the Press host David Gregory pressed Kerry about why the Obama administration did not acknowledge that Russia had invaded the Ukraine on Friday. Kerry did not answer, seemingly incredulous that Russia had ignored contemporary norms.

The trouble is that a "19 century" invasion is still more potent than a 21st century debate. Kerry dodged questions about military options, noting that NATO had issued a "strong statement."

A student at McGill University in Montreal, Canada was forced to issue a formal apology for emailing a picture of Comrade Obama kicking open a door–all because some students thought the image was somehow racist.

The image was actually an edited .gif, and was shown by Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” last fall. It humorously suggests that the president may be fed up with press conferences. McGill student Brian Farnan, vice president of the university’s student government, sent out an email with the .gif and the harmless caption, “Honestly midterms get out of here,” according to Legal Insurrection.

What happened next is almost unbelievable: Another student issued a formal complaint against Farnan for committing a “micro-aggression.”For those not up-to-date on the PC lexicon, “micro-aggression” is the latest phrase of choice for leftist radicals seeking to blame racism for common annoyances suffered by people of all races.

Minority activists at the University of Michigan, for example, have insisted that trivial slights, such as “Having your opinion second-guessed in a group assignment,” are micro-aggressions (Fucking Bullshit!!!) that betray the campus as a hostile place for students of color.

The .gif of Obama kicking a door was racist because of the “cultural, historical and living legacy surrounding people of color—particularly young men—being portrayed as violent,” according to the apology letter that Farnan was forced to write.

Technically, Farnan got off easy. Under the McGill student government’s Orwellian “equity policy,” Farnan could have been suspended or even dismissed from his position as vice president in the organization. The decision to force Farnan to apologize was apparently made by an “equity commissioner,” whose will can only be overturned by a two-thirds majority of the student government.

Like a true victim of the thought police, Farnan was forced to denounce his heretical email.

Students and parents at a Colorado high school are outraged after administrators turned down their request for a spirit week day honoring America because it might offend non-Americans.

“They said they didn’t want to offend anyone from other countries or immigrants,” a 16-year-old member of the student council said. “They just really did not want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.”

The student council at Fort Collins High School had proposed having a day to celebrate the United States during next week’s Winter Spirit Week. The young people pitched “’Merica Monday” – and invited their classmates to dress in patriotic colors. Their proposal was promptly shot down by administrators reports Fox News.

“They said they didn’t want to be exclusive to any other country,” a 17-year-old member of the student council said.

The students and parents who talked about this incident have asked to remain anonymous. The parents feared their children might face reprisals from liberal educators.

“It’s bizarre and idiotic that we’ve come to this crossroads in our society that we are having to sacrifice our own culture and belief system,” one of the parents said. “I can’t even tell you how it got our blood boiling.”

“It’s shocking,” the 16-year-old said. “There are men and women fighting for our country and we should be able to celebrate that and be proud that we live in a country where we are allowed to vote – the right to free speech. They won’t even let us celebrate it.”

The irony, said the students, is that they are required to participate in Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

Up to 40 kids at Uintah Elementary in Salt Lake City picked up their lunches Tuesday, then watched as the meals were taken and thrown away because of outstanding balances on their accounts — a move that shocked and angered parents.

"It was pretty traumatic and humiliating," said Erica Lukes, whose 11-year-old daughter had her cafeteria lunch taken from her Tuesday at Uintah Elementary School.

Lukes said as far as she knew, she was all paid up. "I think it’s despicable," she said. "These are young children that shouldn’t be punished or humiliated for something the parents obviously need to clear up," reports the Salt Lake City Tribune.

Jason Olsen, a Salt Lake City District spokesman, said the district’s child-nutrition department became aware that Uintah had a large number of students who owed money for lunches.

As a result, the child-nutrition manager visited the school and decided to withhold lunches to deal with the issue, he said.

The workers then took those lunches from the students and threw them away, he said, because once food is served to one student it can’t be served to another.

Olsen said school officials told the district that their staffers typically tell students about any balances as they go through the lunch line and send home notifications to parents each week.

The district attempted to contact parents with balances via phone Monday and Tuesday, Olsen said, but weren’t able to reach them all before the child-nutrition manager decided to take away the students’ lunches.

"If students were humiliated and upset," Olsen said, "that’s very unfortunate and not what we wanted to happen."

Olsen released an updated statement that was also posted to the district’s Facebook page.

“This situation could have and should have been handled in a different manner. We apologize,” it said. “We understand the feelings of upset parents and students who say this was an embarrassing and humiliating situation. We again apologize and commit to working with parents in rectifying this situation and to ensuring students are never treated in this manner again.”

While lawmakers in Democrat run New York State are considering delaying the Common Core standards initiative because of its disastrous rollout, new problems with the academic standards are now drawing intense criticism.

Carol Burris, New York’s 2013 High School Principal of the Year, reports at Valerie Strauss’s Washington Post blog that Anna Shah, the mother of a kindergarten student, discovered highly offensive materials on the Student Services Page of the Engage NY Common Core materials site.

When Shah reported her discovery to NYSED, the page was taken down, though the link had reportedly been active since October of 2012 reports Breitbart News.

The link below is to a screen shot made prior to the removal of the site.

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) site contained a section called “Make test prep fun,” which directed students to a site with quizzes that help them find out if they are a “sexy bitch,” “evil,” a “freak,” “insane,” etc.

Scrolling down and right on the page, students could also click on the links to take quizzes that would help them find out if they are “sluts,” or “losers.”

Questions on the “Are you a slut?” test include:

• How many sexual partners have you had?
• Would you have a threesome or a gang bang?

• Have you ever let a boy hump you or grind on you in your younger years?
• Have you ever messed around with brothers, cousins, or some other people related somehow?
• What type of sex do you enjoy/prefer?

Students who wish to find out if they are a “loser” must answer these questions:

• Are you a virgin?
• Do you pay to talk to hot girls, and or pay for any female interaction?
• How many times per day do you jerk your dick to porn/female pictures?
• When did you last have sex?
• How much is in your savings and checking?
• What’s the average size of your dick?

As Burris writes, the Engage NY website, created and maintained by NYSED, was supposed to be a step in a positive direction for Common Core in New York.

Professors and academics will discuss holocaust eroticism, lesbian cowboys, and the “Violent Ethics of Whiteness,” at the Modern Language Association’s (MLA) annual convention starting today.

Illinois' Northwestern University’s Phyllis Lassner, a writing professor, will present “Erotic Terror in Auschwitz: An American Tale,” on the 1994 novel The Kommandant’s Mistress, which depicts “an erotically violent relationship between a Jewish woman prisoner and an S.S. perpetrator born in Auschwitz and ending in the United States.”

The MLA, which is most notable for their widely used grammatical style guide, seeks to provide “opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy,” reports Campus Reform.

The full discussion on the popular television show Girls, titled “Girls and the F Word: Twenty-First-Century Representations of Women's Lives” will have three sessions discussing “The Politics of Dressing and Nakedness,” dating, and “Popular Music and Issues of Identity” in the show.

Another popular discussion topic is queer themes in literature, including the panels "Lesbian Cowboys: Queering the Wild West through Blood Memory and Literary Activism,” “Is everything queer?,” “Between ‘Gay’ and ‘Queer’,” and “Wild, Queer, Vulnerable.”

Contemporary political issues will also be discussed at the convention, including “Beards and Breasts: The Performative Protest Politics of La Barbe and Femen,” and “The Literary Histories of Barack Obama's Dreams from My Father.”

A six year old boy is suspended from school in Canon City, Colorado for kissing a classmate on the cheek.

His mother says it's a crush and the two children like each other. But the school is calling it something else; sexual harassment.

First grader, Hunter Yelton, told us he loves science and phys-ed. Also...that he has a crush on a girl at school, who likes him back reports KRDO News.

It may sound innocent enough...but at six years old Hunter now has 'sexual harassment' on his school record.

"It was during class yeah. We were doing reading group and I leaned over and kissed her on the hand. That's what happened," said Hunter Yelton.

Six year old Hunter was at home on Monday instead of at school.

The superintendent at School District RE-1, says any school record remains within the district. And Hunters’ actions fit the school policy description of 'sexual harassment'.

"How can you do this? How can you say this about my child? Remove sexual harassment, remove it from his record. I'm going to stand up and fight for him because that's not the case, that's not what happened at all,” said Saunders.”

The school district also says Hunters' parents may believe that kissing the girl at school is overall acceptable- but that's where the school disagrees.  They're hoping the suspension changes hunter's behavior.

A 10-year-old has been suspended from school and threatened with expulsion for firing a make-believe arrow at a classmate, prompting a rights group to step in and demand the incident be stricken from the record.

The Rutherford Institute, a civil liberties watchdog group, has intervened in the case of Johnny Jones, a fifth grader at South Eastern Middle School in Fawn Grove, Pa., who found himself in trouble after violating the school’s zero tolerance policy on weapons by miming the action of shooting an arrow from a bow with only his hands.

According to the report, Jones was in class when a classmate held up his folder like an imaginary gun and “shot” at him while he was retrieving a pencil from the teacher. When Jones drew back the strings of an imaginary bow and “shot” back, a girl in the class altered the teacher reports Infowars News.

The teacher then passed the matter on to the principal, saying that “firearms” had been involved in the play fighting. Sure enough, instead of using common sense, the principal suspended Jones for a day, contacted the boy’s parents, and threatened expulsion for “making a threat” to another student using a “replica or representation of a firearm”.

Demanding a response by December 13, The Rutherford Institute’s letter (PDF) states “We request that you rescind the suspension and immediately remove all reference to it from Johnny’s permanent school record.”

“There is no reason that Johnny should be stigmatized and branded a miscreant due to the school’s unreasonable application of its zero tolerance policy against him,” notes the letter, signed by Rutherford Senior Staff Attorney Douglas R. McKusick.

The group routinely intervenes in such cases. President John W. Whitehead, describes the school’s response to the incident and others like it as an ongoing effort to “criminalize childish behavior and punish all offenses severely, no matter how minor or non-threatening the so-called infraction may have been.”

“We all want to keep the schools safe, but I’d far prefer to see something credible done about actual threats, rather than this ongoing, senseless targeting of imaginary horseplay,” he added.

While the school district’s zero-tolerance policy encompasses a prohibition of almost any kind of weapon, Rutherford attorneys state that it is ludicrous to consider an imagined weapon a violation of the policy.

It's quite possible that the single stupidest school lunch policy on the planet comes courtesy of a strange interpretation of the Manitoba Government's Early Learning and Child Care lunch regulations (an earlier version of this article incorrectly pointed at the Manitoba Child Care Association as the source of the strangely interpreted policy).

Apparently if a child's lunch is deemed "unbalanced", where "balance" refers to ensuring that a lunch conforms to the proportions of food groups as laid out by Canada's awful Food Guide, then that child's lunch is "supplemented", and their parent is fined.

Manitoba Government’s Early Learning and Child Care fined mother Kristen Bartkiw $10 because she neglected to include healthful Ritz crackers in her kids’ school lunches. Weighty Matters has more details:

She sent her children to daycare with with lunches containing leftover homemade roast beef and potatoes, carrots, an orange and some milk. 

She did not send along any “grains”. 

As a consequence the school provided her children with, I kid you not, supplemental Ritz Crackers, and her with a $10 fine.

(CBS News)  An eight-year-old at Scottsdale, Arizona’s Charter Country Day School was threatened with expulsion after drawing a picture of soldier with a gun as an idea for a Halloween costume.

The child’s name has not been released—to protect his identity—but his parents pulled him from the school last week after he was threatened with expulsion for drawing a picture of a soldier with a gun, a ninja warrior with a gun, and a Star Wars character holding laser guns.

Many of the third-grader's other journal entries were about saving the earth and protecting humanity.

According to CBS 5 Arizona, the child’s father, who also remains anonymous, said this is a situation where the headmaster literally “bullied” his son over the drawings, and “bullied the parents” too.

The father said the headmaster pointed to writings in the eight-year-old’s journal where he wrote of adventures filled with “booby traps” and “shooting gadgets [like] a rope gun.” The boy also wrote about doing away with nuclear weapons, “saving the earth and protecting humanity.”

However, the headmaster focused on the drawings—like the one of the soldier with a gun—and said he “couldn’t guarantee the safety of other student’s with [the eight-year-old] around.”

"I don't understand how somebody can say that about an 8-year-old that has no history of violence, no history of making threats - nothing at all," he said
