A Leftist Democrat California bill would extend health coverage to illegal immigrants, using an Obamacare-style program to assist those left uncovered by the health care reform law.

Kaiser Health News reported that the legislation, introduced by state Sen. Ricardo Lara, a Democrat, would use state dollars to pay for Medicaid coverage for low-income residents who are in the state illegally. No federal funding would be used.

It would also establish an online marketplace where undocumented immigrants with higher incomes could buy private insurance reports TPM News.

Up to 2.6 million illegal immigrants live in California, where they can currently receive emergency medical care and pregnancy care. About 1 million of them are estimated to be uninsured, according to KHN.

“While we’ve made enormous strides to reduce California’s uninsured population with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, we won’t have a truly healthy state until everyone has access to quality, affordable coverage,” Lara said in a statement.

Anti-illegal immigration groups blasted the bill, which attracted 16 co-sponsors in the state senate, KHN reported.

“There isn’t anything [the California legislature] is not going to give people who are in the country illegally," said, Ira Mehlman, spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

Switzerland is scrapping benefits for unemployed migrants from the European Union and planning new powers to expel them ahead of a referendum on a migration cap next month.

Residency permits for foreign pensioners who retire to Switzerland and apply for state benefits will also be reviewed. The aim is to relieve the pressure on the welfare budget.

Under new rules announced last week, Britons and other EU citizens, as well as incomers from the European Economic Area states of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, will no longer receive benefits if they lose their jobs and have not contributed to Switzerland’s insurance fund for the jobless reports The Sunday Times.

Foreigners will lose their residency permit after five years if they have been out of work for the previous 12 months.

The tighter rules come ahead of the referendum on capping migration, called by the right-wing Swiss People’s party and scheduled for February 9. The party has described its proposal as an “initiative against mass immigration”.

The government and business leaders oppose the cap (naturally), which they claim could leave Switzerland without a vital inflow of qualified migrants (translation - cheap labor). In recent years, German doctors have been flocking to Switzerland, attracted by generous salaries, high living standards and excellent working conditions.

Switzerland is not in the EU, but has an open-border agreement with the union’s 28 member states. Under present rules, EU migrants are allowed to search for work in Switzerland for 12 months. If they have worked in another country for at least a year before their arrival, they are entitled to unemployment benefits immediately.

There are 1.8 million foreigners in Switzerland, about 23% of the population.

Critics refer to the referendum as an “initiative for isolation”, and suggest the government announced the new rules in an attempt to appease voters before the poll.

Johann Schneider-Ammann, the economics minister, denied there was any such ploy, but admitted Switzerland’s housing crisis was “partially” down to an influx of foreigners.

In a 2009 referendum, also backed by the Swiss People’s party, more than 57% of voters supported a constitutional ban on the construction of minarets on mosques. It subsequently emerged that there are only four mosques with minarets in the country.

The University of Colorado, Denver (UCD) has placed a "cultural diversity" coordinator on paid leave after allegations surfaced she was operating a phone sex business during university hours.

Resa Cooper-Morning, 54, Cultural Diversity coordinator at UCD also managed a soft-core pornography site featuring a sex-chat component that allowed subscribers to engage in explicit conversations with the CU administrator during her university hours.

The “phone sex that will rock every part of your body!” was purportedly available Monday-Friday from 7:30am through the evening.

Cooper-Morning’s CU schedule indicated she worked at the university from 7 a.m. through 3 p.m. Monday through Friday according to Denver’s CBS4.

“She does it while she is working at CU Denver,” Blair Cooper, Resa's daughter-in-law told CBS4.

“She is taking calls at work. I’ve been in her office and she’s said, ‘Oh, let me be right back I have a phone call.’ She takes them very discreetly, shuts her door takes phone sex calls on CU of Denver’s pay.”

CU Denver Vice Chancellor of Communications Leanna Clark told CBS4 that an internal investigation is being conducted. “The University of Colorado Denver takes this allegation very seriously,” Clark said.

Cooper-Morning, employed by the University of Colorado since 1992, will continue to receive her $68,000 annual salary.

State records obtained by CBS4 show that in 2003 the CU administrator established a business which included a website “msresa.com.”

The site features numerous nude, provocative photos of the CU administrator and allows users to purchase memberships that allow them to view dozens of low budget, soft core videos starring Cooper-Morning. One is entitled “Erotica in Pink,” another “Ride Her Pony!” while a 2013 offering is called “Vanilla Cocoa Butter Oil.” The short videos generally show Cooper-Morning in provocative poses and taking her clothes off.

The larger concern for CU administrators is that the website contains a phone sex component which offers users the ability to talk dirty with Cooper-Morning for $1.49 a minute about “fantasies … guided masturbation” and as the site promotes “phone sex that will rock every part of your body!.”

“Maybe kiss my brown thighs,” suggests her phone sex site. The site says Cooper-Morning can be reached for phone sex Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until late at night. Her university work hours are listed as 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The prospect that the CU administrator has been engaging in paid phone sex at the same time she is being paid to work by taxpayers has administrators concerned.

Farm Subsidies Are Going to Groups in Urban Chicago

Between 2008 and 2011, the U.S. government awarded roughly $6.12 million in federal farm subsidies to several groups in the Chicago area, including a charity owned by Louis Farrakhan’s The Nation of Islam, according to a report released by government watchdog group Open the Books.

The report, titled “Farm Subsidies and the Big Dogs,” is based on data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture & information obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. The report examines total farm subsidies that have been paid into selected cities and urban areas.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, federal farm subsidies are being poured into several non-farming metropolitan areas, including New York City and Chicago, according to the report reports The Blaze.

Several entities in Chicago, for example, “receive the federal subsidies at their downtown loop office buildings or residential mansions,” the report reads. “Nearly every neighborhood in the city receives federal farm subsidy payments — including the Gold Coast, Downtown — Loop, Lincoln Park, and even the President’s neighbors in Hyde Park.”

A total of 930 entities in the Chicago area received farm subsidies between 2008 and 2011.

And as for the Louis Farrakhan group: Three Years Economic Savings, Inc., which is listed at his home address, received approximately $103,529 between 2008 and 2011, making it the 12th highest farm subsidy recipient in the Chicago area.

The group also received a $26,357 “commodity loan” during the Bush administration “to improve & stabilize farm income, assist with a better balance between supply and demand of the commodities,” the report notes.  This loan was signed on Nov., 17, 2008.

“(F)arm subsidies today have nothing to do with ‘preserving the family farm,’” the report reads, adding that small family farms between 2008 and 2011 received only a small fraction of federal subsidies.

 

“Wealthy investors have piggy-backed on a growing government program and made the largess of farm subsidies part of their investment portfolio. Many of these wealthy investors don’t live in ‘rural areas,’ but instead utilize ‘farm managers’ and taxpayer dollars to maximize return on their ‘farm’ investments,” the report notes.

Commie California considers paying poor people to drive electric cars

The People's Republic of California  -  One longtime critic of federal transportation spending once concluded that it would be less expensive for the government to buy every new transit rider a Jaguar XJ8 than it would be to build certain new rail systems. Unfortunately, Democratic California officials may not have realized that the idea of buying people new cars wasn’t a serious proposal as much as a way to illustrate a point about excessive spending.

The unelected Democrat run California Air Resources Board is now embarking on a program that would help poor people buy energy-efficient vehicles. In one scenario posed by the agency, a “voucher” might even pay the full price for a Nissan Leaf, an electric car with an MSRP above $21,000, or for used cars with lower price tags.

In a staff report released on Nov. 19, the agency analyzes its Enhanced Fleet Modernization Program authorized in 2007. Funded by a $1 surcharge on vehicle registrations, the $30-million-a-year program is essentially a “cash for clunkers” deal. It provides motorists with $1,000 to $1,500 to retire their high-polluting vehicles reports the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The board also sponsors a pilot program that provides up to $4,000 for certain motorists to ditch their old cars and buy late-model, cleaner vehicles. The board admits that the current program is “overly complicated” and “highly bureaucratic,” so it’s looking for ways to streamline and expand it so that more people take advantage of the assistance.

 

Two new laws enable this effort. AB 8 extended the life of the $1 surcharge until 2024. And SB 459 directs the agency to offer vouchers at “no less than $2,500.” There is no apparent maximum. The law authorizes “an increase in the compensation for low-income vehicle owners as necessary to balance maximizing air quality benefits while ensuring participation.” One goal, as explained in the SB 459 fact sheet, is to promote “transportation justice.”

 

Apparently, wealthy people already are benefiting from subsidies to high-end electric car makers such as the Tesla. This law brings car subsidies directly to lower-income people.

 

The law was authored by Sen. Fran Pavley, D-Calabassas, recently named one of two Legislators of the Year by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers for her efforts to promote cleaner air.

 

In a chart in the staff report, the Air Resources Board looks at the potential “incentive” that would be needed to encourage people to buy the desired type of car. It finds, for instance, the agency would need to pay the “full cost” of a vehicle for a family of two to buy a new electric car or $18,000 for a family of three to buy a used hybrid.

 

The agency isn’t saying that it will necessarily provide such large subsidies, but the report does lay the groundwork for much larger subsidies than are now available.

Lisa, 30, quit her job in McDonald's after just three months because it made her too anxious, while Carrie-Ann, 23, has never worked at all.

And due to tough new benefit cap rules their housing payments were slashed and the pair were evicted from their £850-a-month rented home.

However, their £608-a-week B&B room is paid for by the taxpayer, and makes up a £53,000-a-year benefits handout on top of income support and child benefit.

The pair now want want the council to give them a bigger house for their brood.

They argue they would be able to work if they weren't bullied about their sexuality - and afford a house themselves.

Lisa said: “It does feel like we were persecuted against because of our sexuality and I think the council needs to show us some sympathy.

“They guaranteed us that they would be able to find us a house as soon as we were out of the private house, but we are still here.

“The best they’ve come up with is privately rented property but we wouldn’t be able to afford it and the same thing would happen again.

The couple, from Ashford, Kent, have also posted YouTube clips of them happily dancing in the home where they claim they were made miserable by abuse.

Lisa already had son Devon, seven, and Carrie-Ann had son Dillon, eight, from their previous heterosexual relationships.
