Sean Connery - Scottish independence is opportunity 'not to be missed'

Scottish Independence Vote This Year

Sean Connery, the actor, has spoken in support of Scottish independence saying a yes vote would “capture the world’s attention.”

The 83 year old said voting for independence could create a number of opportunities for Scotland, including bolstering the creative industries and leading to more jobs.

Sir Sean, who does not live in Scotland said he thought an opportunity for independence should not be missed or taken for granted reports the UK Telegraph.

"I fully respect the choice facing Scotland in September is a matter for the people who choose to work and live there - that's only right,” he said in an interview published in the Sun on Sunday.

"But as a Scot with a lifelong love of Scotland and the arts, I believe the opportunity of independence is too good to miss. Simply put there is no more creative an act than creating a new nation."

Sir Sean is due to reveal his views on Tuesday, to coincide with a lecture Alex Salmond, the Scottish First Minister, is due to give in London.

He said he felt a yes vote could encourage more investment in the film industry, allowing it to develop and creating more jobs in Scotland.

He added: "A Yes vote will capture the world's attention. There will be a renewed focus on our culture and politics, giving us an unparalleled opportunity to promote our heritage and creative excellence."

Last month the Telegraph revealed that the official independence campaign had reserved up to £2.5 million worth of advertising space to promote the Yes vote, ahead of September 18. The advertising is expected to appear from this month.

Obama's NSA steals millions of Yahoo webcam chats

Big Brother is Watching You
  • Yahoo: 'A whole new level of violation of our users' privacy'.
  • Obama's NSA uses the British security services as a cover to spy on you and avoid the 4th Amendment to the Bill of Rights.

Britain's surveillance agency GCHQ, with aid from the US National Security Agency, intercepted and stored the webcam images of millions of Internet users not suspected of wrongdoing, secret documents reveal.

GCHQ files dating between 2008 and 2010 explicitly state that a surveillance program codenamed Optic Nerve collected still images of Yahoo webcam chats in bulk and saved them to agency databases, regardless of whether individual users were an intelligence target or not.

In one six-month period in 2008 alone, the agency collected webcam imagery – including substantial quantities of sexually explicit communications – from more than 1.8 million Yahoo user accounts globally reports the UK Guardian.

Yahoo reacted furiously to the webcam interception when approached by the Guardian. The company denied any prior knowledge of the program, accusing the agencies of "a whole new level of violation of our users' privacy".

GCHQ does not have the technical means to make sure no images of UK or US citizens are collected and stored by the system, and there are no restrictions under UK law to prevent Americans' images being accessed by British analysts without an individual warrant.

Optic Nerve, the documents provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden show, began as a prototype in 2008 and was still active in 2012, according to an internal GCHQ wiki page accessed that year.

The system, eerily reminiscent of the telescreens evoked in George Orwell's 1984, was used for experiments in automated facial recognition, to monitor GCHQ's existing targets, and to discover new targets of interest.

Such searches could be used to try to find terror suspects or criminals making use of multiple, anonymous user IDs.

One document even likened the program's "bulk access to Yahoo webcam images/events" to a massive digital police mugbook of previously arrested individuals.

"Face detection has the potential to aid selection of useful images for 'mugshots' or even for face recognition by assessing the angle of the face," it reads. "The best images are ones where the person is facing the camera with their face upright."

Obama has UK spend over $8 million to monitor Julian Assange

"Obama is effectively rewriting the Constitution. The First Amendment has no exception for an embarrassed military or an embarrassed White House. What part of 'no' does President Barack Obama not understand?"
Julian Assange
WikiLeaks

The Brits are right at the side of Comrade Obama in creating an authoritarian state.

The Conservative Party government of Britain has spent over $8 million on monitoring the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where Julian Assange has been holed up for 20 months. His stay is having a knock-on effect on British taxpayers, reportedly costing them over $16,000 a day.

In response to a Freedom of Information request filed by the Huffington Post UK, the London Metropolitan Police revealed the financial consequences of Assange’s stay in the Ecuadorian Embassy. The WikiLeaks founder entered the Embassy in June 2012 in a desperate plea to avoid his extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning over accusations of sexual assault reports RT News.

Conservative UK PM David Cameron is
acting as Obama's enforcer thug to crush
freedom of speech and of the Internet
and printed press.

London Police have maintained round-the-clock surveillance on the Ecuadorian Embassy since Assange’s arrival, which cost a total of 5.3 million pounds ($8.3 million) between June 2012 and December 2013. According to data released by the MET Police, around 900,000 pounds ($1.5 million) were paid out in overtime wages to officers.

If Assange stays in the Embassy building until 2022 – when the statute of limitations on his extradition request expires – it could cost the London police about 36.5 million pounds ($60 million), reports the Huffington Post UK.

Assange has essentially been imprisoned in the Ecuadorian Embassy as UK police have resolved to arrest him and extradite him should he set foot outside the building. Moreover, Assange believes that once in Sweden, the authorities would hand him over to the US, where he could potentially be tried for espionage in connection with the thousands of classified diplomatic cables divulged by WikiLeaks.

At the beginning of this month Swedish MPs urged prosecutors to visit Assange’s de facto home in Ecuador’s London embassy to question him, arguing that the whistleblower will not come to Sweden voluntarily.

"It is in the interest of everyone involved in this process that the prosecutor reaches a conclusion to either file charges or dismiss the case, and it is obvious that Assange will not come to Sweden,"
Staffan Danielsson, from the Center Party, said in a statement.

However, Swedish prosecutors have criticized MPs for overstepping the mark and interfering in the course of justice.

"The fact that an MP openly questions a prosecutor's decision- making in an individual case is remarkable," said Anders Perklev, the Swedish Prosecutor-General. "It violates the foundation of power division between the legislative and the executive authorities in Sweden."

Assange has been accused of rape by one woman and charges of sexual assault by another in connection with a trip to Sweden in 2010. The whistleblower denies the charges against him.

A British Police State
The so-called "Conservative" government of Britain has spent over $8 million, or $16,000 a day, to imprison Internet newspaper publisher Julian Assange inside the embassy of Ecuador on the orders of Comrade Obama.

US Calls Julian Assange 'Enemy Of State'
"The US military has designated Julian Assange and WikiLeaks as enemies of the United States - the same legal category as the al-Qaeda terrorist network and the Taliban insurgency. Declassified US Air Force counter-intelligence documents, released under US freedom-of-information laws, reveal that military personnel who contact WikiLeaks or WikiLeaks supporters may be at risk of being charged with "communicating with the enemy", a military crime that carries a maximum sentence of death.

350,000 Christian graves to be dug up for a Muslim burial site

The Muslims Want Your Graves
  • In yet another example of a deep hatred for their own history and culture British leaders have proposed digging up the graves of Christians, Jews and others in order to create a Muslim cemetery.

It is a peaceful resting place for 350,000 souls - an historic graveyard which now serves as a nature reserve.
.
But plans are afoot to dig up the ancient graves at Tower Hamlets Cemetery - and reopen it as a 21st century burial site.
.
Officially it would be known as a "multi-faith" cemetery but it is likely that it would principally answer calls for a Muslim graveyard in the largely-Asian East London borough reports the UK Daily Mail.

The local newspaper has been bombarded with letters from historians and nature lovers declaring: "There is no way we'll allow them to dig up our ancestors."
.
But the Labour-controlled council's environment spokesman Abdal Ullah appeared to be in no doubt about the feasibility of the plan when he said: "To preserve the respect and dignity for everyone, I think most of the graves would have to be cleared out and we'd start afresh."
.
He said a corner of the cemetery would be reserved for Muslims who are buried in shrouds at a depth of 6ft and on their side facing Mecca.
.
By law, any graves more than 75 years old can be removed.
.
At the cemetery yesterday, liaison officer Ken Greenway - the only paid member of staff tending the 33-acre site - said he was astonished that anyone would even contemplate such a move.
.
"I'm against it and I have to stand up for that because of the huge value of this site today," he added.
.
"It's a beautiful haven for wildlife and people."
.
The City of London and Tower Hamlets Cemetery was opened in 1841 by an Act of Parliament.
.
During the Second World War it was bombed five times and some headstones still bear the marks of shrapnel hits.

Margaret Thatcher on "Income Equality"

Any chance we can clone Thatcher?

Lately Comrade Obama has been ramping up the Marxist rhetoric regarding “income inequality.” He and others have expressed a desire to mitigate this alleged problem with punitive taxation even if it retards economic growth and provides Big Government with no additional revenue.

Legoland rented by Radical Islamists for a "Family Fun Day"

Putting the Fun Back in Fundamentalism
Legoland has been hired out to a radical Muslim
cleric for a ‘Family Fun Day’

By Richard Littlejohn
UK Daily Mail

Legoland has been hired out to a radical Muslim cleric for a ‘Family Fun Day’. Maybe that’s ‘Fun’ as in ‘Fundamentalism’.
.
The theme park in Windsor,  Berkshire, has accepted a booking from a man said to be among the top 25 hate preachers in Britain.
.
Haitham al-Haddad leads the Muslim Research and Development Foundation, which is based in Tower Hamlets, and is in favour of turning this country into a Sharia state.

Al-Haddad is an enthusiastic supporter of Taliban policies, believes that Jews  are ‘descended from apes and pigs’, homosexuals are criminals and those who leave Islam should be killed.
.
Usama Hasan, of the moderate, anti- terrorism think tank, the Quilliam  Foundation, said: ‘Like all extreme Islamists, he uses fascist language about non-Muslims and refuses to sit at the same table as women.'

Al-Haddad’s repugnant views are as abhorrent to mainstream Muslims as they are to the rest of us and have led to him being banned from a number of universities.
.
But not, apparently, Legoland. On  March 9, a convoy of coaches will  set off from the East London Mosque  in Whitechapel for a day of ‘Halal entertainment’.

Obama has Snowden's lawyer interrogated at Heathrow Airport

The Long Reach of Obama Fascism
  • Acting on the orders of Comrade Obama's DHS, British agents at Heathrow force Edward Snowden's lawyer into a side room for "interrogation".
  • Obama's corruption knows no bounds as even defense lawyers are targeted for intimidation and fascist harassment by the Police State.
  • And the full bi-bipartisan funding of the 1984 Police Surveillance State goes on and on.

Jesselyn Radack, a human rights advocate, whistleblower group member and lawyer to former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, has been targeted, detained and questioned in the by customs officers at London’s Heathrow Airport.

As she was going through customs, she was led to a separate room by a Heathrow Border Force agent who showed no interest in her documents, but seemed intent on asking her a series of questions that appeared aimed at emotional intimidation.

Speaking to Firedoglake follow the weekend incident, Radack recounted the ordeal, saying it was “very hostile.” The agent found out she was on her way to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where Wikileaks founder Julian Assange continues to be holed up. A meeting of the Sam Adams Associates whistleblowers’ group was to take place reports RT News.

The Sam Adams group is comprised of retired CIA officers, taking their name from a CIA whistleblower during the Vietnam War. They stand for the promotion of ethics, and for the integrity and accountability of government. They give out an annual whistleblower award for particular achievements in those fields; Edward Snowden and Bradley/Chelsea Manning were its latest recipients, although Assange and Radack herself also made the cut.

Who will you be seeing?” asked the agent. She replied with the name of the group, giving him a list of members – all prominent figures in rights advocacy and whistleblowing: “Ray McGovern, Annie Machon, Thomas Drake, Craig Murray,” she replied, adding that she is also a member.

Ex-NSA official on the U.S. spy leviathan
Thomas Drake, who was prosecuted for allegedly disclosing National Security Agency secrets years before Edward Snowden surfaced, says the U.S. government has an "industrial-scale" surveillance system that "the Stasi in East Germany would have drooled over." Drake speaks with Reuters defense correspondent Andrea Shalal-Esa.

Steve Wozniak: Internet freedoms at risk
RT's Abby Martin sits down with Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, to speak about net neutrality and his fear that freedom on the Web might become a thing of the past.

Once the agent had realized the meeting was to be held at the Ecuadorian Embassy, he went on to ask her if it was with Julian Assange. “Yes,” she replied.

“Why have you gone to Russia twice in three months?” the customs agent then asked in a seemingly unrelated follow-up question, to which Radack she replied that it was her client, Edward Snowden.

More bizarre still: “Who is Edward Snowden?” Radack answered truthfully that he was a whistleblower, which was followed by a no less bizarre “Who is Bradley Manning?” with Radack answering once more – “a whistleblower.”

Where is he?” the agent asked of the jailed leaker, now known as Chelsea Manning. Radack replied – “in jail”. “So he’s a criminal?”, he retorted. “He’s a political prisoner,” came the reply from Radack, who was unwilling to lose her composure and continued replying dryly to every question.

The agent then started asking her of her connection to Snowden and if she represented him, to which she said – no, but the border agent was intent on pushing ahead with the line of questioning: “But you represent Snowden?”

“Yes, I’m a human rights lawyer,” Radack explained as questions with obvious answers were fired at her.

Drake, who is also one of the members of the Sam Adams Group, bore witness to the entire interrogation, recounting how the border agent had had a “threatening demeanor.”

Radack later recalled how she kept her composure throughout the interrogation, but almost broke down in tears afterward, wondering how the agent knew to ask all these questions, and why.

As it turned out, she was on the so-called “inhibited persons list” – a category created by the Department of Homeland Security implying that a TSA agent has the authority not to grant that person passenger a border pass and/or allow them into the next area.

Another lawyer – Jennifer Robinson, who has also represented Snowden – appeared on the “inhibited passenger” list in April 2012. The categorization was then very fresh, having been invented only in March 2012, and pertains, among other things, to an agreement with the United Kingdom to agree to “new rules that required airlines to provide the Department of Homeland Security with details of passengers even if they weren’t traveling to the United States..." Robinson’s own Heathrow experience created uproar among her Australian colleagues.

Following the ordeal at Heathrow, Radack came out with a public statement denouncing the whole practice and the harassment it often entails: “The government, whether in the US, UK or elsewhere does not have the authority to monitor, harass or intimidate lawyers for representing unpopular clients.”

Another similar story involving Heathrow, Snowden and the NSA involved the Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald’s partner David Miranda, who in August of 2013 was detained at the airport for nine hours in line with the UK’s law on terrorism. The fleeting connection to Snowden was enough for agents to have the authority to seize all his electronic equipment in their bid to intercept any communications taking place with the whistleblower.

Radack once told RT that despite the fact that “it’s a dangerous time for whistleblowers in the US,” Snowden’s revelations have had a big effect as “courage is contagious.” She added that “I really think [Snowden] has had a wonderful effect [on] the US and the world.”

Police to review your private medical records

Big Brother is Watching You
UK Police And Companies Will Have Access To Database
Of All England's Medical Records

The so-called "Conservative" UK government is currently building a database called care.data that will contain all of England's medical records. It's being promoted as providing valuable information for healthcare management and medical researchers that will lead to improved treatment.

Given the extremely sensitive nature of the material that will be stored, you might have expected this to be opt-in, but instead the UK government has chosen to make it opt-out. Not only that, but the relatively sparse information about what was happening was sent in the form of a generic, unaddressed letter that differs little from the dozens of junk mail pieces received by most households each week, and failed to include any easy-to-use opt-out form reports Tech Dirt.

This has fuelled suspicions that the UK government is making it hard to opt out in order to keep the numbers enrolled in the database as high as possible. More recently, good reasons why people might want to avoid the scheme have emerged. For example, it was revealed that as well as being provided to research scientists, the database could also be bought by companies:
Drug and insurance companies will from later this year be able to buy information on patients -- including mental health conditions and diseases such as cancer, as well as smoking and drinking habits -- once a single English database of medical data has been created.
Now we learn that the UK police will also have access:

The database that will store all of England's health records has a series of "backdoors" that will allow police and government bodies to access people's medical data.
As the UK MP David Davis told the Guardian:
"The idea that police will be able to request information from a central database without a warrant totally undermines a long-held belief in the confidentiality of the doctor-patient relationship," he said.

That means that as well as the risk of a privacy disaster of unprecedented proportions if the consolidated health data is lost or stolen as a result of being passed to third parties (as has already happened with a similar but smaller database), patients may be less likely to confide in their doctors knowing that details will end up in a database sold to companies and freely available to the police.

Nice work, Mr Cameron.

British Muslims 'carried out torture' in Syria

Two British siblings, who were radicalized in UK mosques, died while fighting Kurdish rebels in Northern Syria. The Kurdish rebels, who are predominantly Sunni Muslims, have switched sides and allied themselves with the Syrian government out of hatred for the Saudi-backed foreign extremists entering their country. Great - The British Export Terrorists

British Muslims have carried out acts of torture and possibly executions in Syria, according to new video footage posted on social network sites.

Hundreds of British citizens have travelled to Syria to fight against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Many are believed to have joined Islamist rebel groups linked to al-Qaeda, notably Jabhat al-Nusra.

One man from London posted a video on Facebook showing a prisoner being flogged with an iron bar. The victim is apparently from the Free Syrian Army (FSA), a rival rebel movement. He is assaulted with such force that the bar breaks in half. The prisoner endures this while lashed to a car tire reports the UK Telegraph.
.

The accompanying message on Facebook posted by the British man reads: “This FSA scum never thought we wud [sic] jump out at them and pick them up after saying some abusive words to our brothers.”

He added: “Two then got ahead of themselves and swore at Allah, at this point there was no stopping us LOL although we where [sic] told to jus [sic] leave them.”

This particular Facebook account has been verified as belonging to a British fighter from London.

Shiraz Maher, a senior fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King’s College London, said there was no doubt about its authenticity, but he was unable to name the individual involved. “When I contact them, they’ll talk about the situation on the ground in Syria, but they won’t give anything like biographical details,” said Maher.

Another man, who is also from London, tweeted a photograph showing three blindfolded prisoners with their hands tied behind their backs. “Got these criminals today. Insha’Allah they will be killed tomorrow. can’t wait for that feeling when you just killed someone”, reads the accompanying tweet.

Some days later, the same man posted a photograph of a bloodied hand on Facebook. “My first time!” reads the caption.

This image has been picked up by numerous social media pages used by radical Islamists.  Maher said there was no doubt this Twitter account belonged to a British fighter from London.

Counter-terrorism officials believe that British fighters in Syria pose a significant threat to national security. If they return to Britain, hardened by the experience of close combat, the fear is that they might carry out attacks at home.

Labour Party proposes a Marxist 50% tax

Business figures hit out at Labour's 50% tax rate plan

Senior British business figures have launched a strong and united attack on Labour’s pledge to raise the top rate of tax to 50%.

In the strongest criticism so far, the heads of 24 of Britain’s most successful companies warned in a letter to The Telegraph that Ed Miliband’s policy would threaten the recovery and cost jobs.

Ed Balls, the shadow chancellor, has been severely criticised by rival politicians, industry figures and some members of his own party since announcing the policy. Balls insisted that his party was “pro-business” but claimed it was needed to close the budget deficit, which is forecast to be £78 billion at the next election reports the UK Telegraph.

The signatories of today’s letter include Sir Stuart Rose, the chairman of Ocado, Sir Ian Cheshire, the chief executive of the DIY giant Kingfisher, and Neil Clifford, the chief executive of the footwear retailer Kurt Geiger.

They warn that the 50% rate “will have the effect of discouraging business investment in the UK” and is a “backward step” that would quickly lead to job losses.

Charlie Mullins, the founder of Pimlico Plumbers, said it would trigger an exodus of investors like that seen in France after President François Hollande increased the top rate of tax to 75 per cent.

“It would be suicidal,” he said. “Business people are against paying tax, just not at such a punitive rate.”

Another signatory is Richard Caring, the owner of Le Caprice and the Ivy restaurants who has an outstanding £2 million loan to the Labour Party.

He said he was “deflated to see this negative political attack on those trying to support the fragile recovery … This is a complete downer and discouragement for entrepreneurs”.

Sir Stuart, who led Marks & Spencer for six years, added: “This will put at risk all the good work that has been done to put the economy back on track.”

Sir Ian, whose company’s stores include B & Q and Screwfix, said: “Raising the rate is bad economics and sends an anti-business message.”

SHOCK - I found 'Allah' in my potato

Muslim housewife finds Allah's name while peeling spuds
  • In a completely unrelated story, the Associated Press reports that mental illness is much more wide spread than previously thought.

A Scots Muslim woman (try to get your mind around that thought) has found the word "Allah" inside a potato she was peeling.

Mariam Nadeem told the Record: "It's like a special blessing has been sent to us."

Mum-of-two Mariam, 30, of Glenrothes, Fife, discovered the Arabic writing inside the spud as she peeled a batch of potatoes to make samosas reports the Daily Record.

She said: "This particular potato seemed a little bit mouldy so I cut a chunk off to see if the rest was OK.
Holy Spud
.
"Then I noticed the brown writing in Arabic against the yellow of the potato.

"I couldn't believe it when I spelled out 'Allah'."

Mariam, who has sons aged five and two, showed the potato to her shopkeeper husband Nadeem Aslam.

"He agreed that the writing looked like 'Allah'," she said. "I showed it to our neighbors and they too were surprised."

Nadeem then took the potato to her local mosque.

She said: "Our imam suggested we could try to dry it and put it on show."

"But I don't want to dry it in case it turns brown so I think we will freeze it or bury it in the garden instead.

"I was very proud when I found it. I think I am very lucky.

"I have heard about messages from Allah on a leaf or an animal, but it is very rare."

Hundreds of Muslims flocked to a small terraced house in West Yorkshire in 1999 to see a tomato with a "message from Allah" inside.

Housewife Shabana Hussain, 27, was making a meal for her family when she cut the tomato in half and found "Bismillah" - or Allah - written in Arabic.

Writing on the other half of the vegetable said "la illaha illala" - or "there is no God but Allah".  Shabana said: "I was shocked."

Muslims Try To Kidnap Lesbian Sister's Gay Lover

News Flash - For some strange reason no one from this family
managed to qualify for the Miss World Pageant.

"You've messed with the wrong Muslims"
  • Muslim Asian family calls the white Lesbian lover a "honky".
  • Judge says siblings of Nazma Dizza were motivated by religious and racial hatred and disapproval of her sexuality.
  • But if you dare to speak up against importing Muslims you are called a racist etc.

Six siblings from a "traditional Asian Muslim family" in Lancashire have been jailed after attempting to kidnap the white lesbian lover of one of their sisters, threatening to kill her because she had "messed with the wrong Muslims".

Sentencing them to between three-and-a-half and six years in prison, the judge said they had been motivated by religious and racial hatred as well as disapproval of their sister's sexuality.

"This case is about power and control," Judge Graham Knowles, QC, told the family at Preston crown court on Friday. "It's about striking terror into the heart, in order to control not just the body but also the will," reports the UK Guardian.

Almost three years ago Nazma Ditta, one of nine children from Blackburn, began a secret relationship with Sarah Harrison when both women worked at a clothes shop in Blackburn, Preston crown court heard.

Unhappy that Nazma, now 28, was in a same sex relationship – and with a white non-Muslim woman – six of Nazma's siblings plotted to break up the relationship. They claimed a teacher at a mosque had told them to "take action now or it might be too late" and had given permission "to be violent", the court heard.

The family wanted Nazma to enter into an arranged marriage with a cousin or another man, and discussed putting her on a plane to Pakistan, the judge noted. They concocted the plot via the online text messaging service WhatsApp, referring to it as "our mission as a family".

Three of Nazma's sisters, one wearing a full face veil, were caught on CCTV kicking and punching Harrison, 35, after she finished work at USC Clothing in Blackburn town centre on 20 June last year.
.
They were shown dragging her to the floor by her hair and snatching her handbag, before rifling through it to take out Nazma's passport and other things belonging to her. Beforehand, text messages exchanged between the siblings referred to "battering that bitch". One, sent by Nayyar Mehmood, 36, the second oldest sibling, urged her siblings to attack Harrison and warned them: "A kaffir [non-believer] is taking over." Another message referred to Harrison as a "honky", offensive slang for a white person.

CCTV shown to the court showed sisters Nighat Morris, 39, the eldest child in the family, along with Atfah Ditta, 32, and Ghazala Ditta, 31, trying and failing to bundle Harrison into the back of a car before driving away. All three were sentenced to five years and four months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm, attempted kidnap and robbery.

They were guarded during the attack by Tahmoor Ditta, 26, one of Nazma's brothers. He had a bradawl "clenched in his fist with the spike poking out between his fingers" which he used to try to scare off one of Harrisons's colleagues, who tried to intervene in the attack. He received a six-year sentence for conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm, attempted kidnap, robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and battery.

Both Harrison and her colleague told police Ghazala shouted: "Get her in, get her in, you've messed with the wrong Muslims, we're going to kill you."

Two other sisters, Nayyar Mehmood, 38, and Tosif Ditta, 35, received three-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm.

All were ordered not to go near Nazma or Harrison, who are still a couple, until the judge discharges the restraining order.

All were ordered not to go near Nazma or Harrison, who are still a couple, until the judge discharges the restraining order.

The court heard Harrison has had to quit her job and sell her home for fear of reprisals. In a witness impact statement read to the court she said she was terrified that she would be the victim of an acid attack.

Nazma kept her sexuality a secret until 19 June last year, shortly after she moved out of the family home. "Knowing that the family would react very badly to the news that she was gay and that she was in an on-going relationship, Nazma Ditta had been slowly moving her belongings from the family home over to Miss Harrison's home in Blackpool since December 2012," said prosecuting barrister Richard Haworth.

"The family had a traditional arranged marriage planned for her and had already suggested a suitor – her cousin, to whom the family believed she was betrothed, and whom she in fact had already rejected," said Haworth. "In April 2013 three further suitors were suggested to her and a date of February 2014 was mentioned for her marriage and that of her two siblings, including Tasawar [a brother, aged 29], who the family are aware is gay." The Dittas were a "traditional Asian Muslim family", he added.

Nazma agreed to a marriage but resolved to run away and live with Harrison, the court heard. On 10 June she called Tasawar from a withheld number, telling him she was gay but not mentioning her relationship with Harrison. On 11 June Nazma had an "emotional"meeting with Tasawar, Ghazala and their mother, Rani, who was originally charged as part of the conspiracy to kidnap Harrison. (The charges against Rani were dropped earlier this year when the prosecution agreed not to submit any evidence in relation to her if six of her children pleaded guilty.)

After that meeting the family "closed ranks and told or cajoled and emotionally blackmailed" Nazma, said Haworth. She received abusive text messages from her siblings. One, from Tasawar, said: "I am dead to you, Delete my number. I hope you are happy with Sarah." One of her sisters, 31-year-old Ghazala, then texted to call Nazma a "selfish stupid bitch. Just wait until we get hold of you."

Her husband, a white man called Stuart Morris, was called to give evidence on Friday, and claimed that the Dittas welcomed him into their family. "Race, religion, sexuality has never been an issue in this family," he told the court, saying that not only was one of the sons – Tasawar, gay, but that one of the other daughters had been in a lesbian relationship while at university.

The siblings on trial claim they acted because they we had "genuine, deep seated concern as to Nazma's welfare," and "acting out of concern for their parents", said Ricky Holland, defending Aftah Ditta, 32, a university educated mother of two young children, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm.

After the sentencing, gay rights activist Peter Tatchell said: "We regularly get reports from lesbian and gay muslim people who say they have been threatened, intimidated or beaten up by family members who disapprove of their sexuality.

"It is a minority problem but it is very worrying that the victims are so fearful that they don't seek prosecution.

"It would be really helpful if muslim organisations and mosques spoke out and spoke out more frequently against all honour based violence, including that which targets lesbian, gay and transgender Muslims."
