The Washington Times reports that New Jersey has become ground zero this year for legislative battles over gun control.

The Brady Campaign ranked the state third in the nation for most restrictive firearms laws, yet anti-gun Democrats who control the legislature are determined to go all the way to gun bans and confiscation.

The New Jersey Assembly’s Law and Public Safety Committee was scheduled to hold a public hearing on Monday (postponed for snow) about a bill that reduces the maximum magazine capacity from 15 to 10.

Since the legislation covers both detachable and fixed magazines, it has the effect of to banning popular, low-caliber rifles.

The Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs gave the draft legislation to top firearms experts in the country to determine what guns would fall under the expanded ban.

They discovered that the bill would affect tube-fed, semi-automatic rifles because the magazine cannot be separated from the gun.

Thus, the experts found that at least 43 common rifles would suddenly be considered a prohibited “assault firearm,” such as the .22 caliber Marlin Model 60, Remington Nylon 66 and Winchester 190.

Just having one such gun would turn a law-abiding owner into a felon overnight.

Possession of an “assault firearm” is a second-degree crime in New Jersey. The penalty is up to 10 years in jail and a mandatory minimum sentence of three to five years, with no chance of parole.

“This bill is a gun ban, there’s no question about that,” Scott Bach, the executive director of the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs, told me in an interview.

“If it becomes law, it would have zero impact on crime because criminals don’t follow bans. It would only affect legal gun owners by essentially tying their hands when they need to defend their lives.”

Even worse, the bill has no grandfather clause and no amnesty period. So as soon as this legislation becomes law, everyone in possession of these rifles is automatically a felon and the guns are subject to seizure by the government.

Watch the bravery of the protesters in the videos below as they moved with just bats and shields, and advanced again and again to try to rescue their comrades who had been shot by snipers.

By some estimates, between 70 and 100 protesters were shot in the streets by the government this past week. Snipers picked off protesters one by one, not one appeared to have a gun to be able to respond on any of the videos.

The law in the Ukraine requires that you must have a license to possess a gun. According to Gun Policy, applicants for a gun owner’s license in Ukraine are required to prove genuine reason to possess a firearm, for example, hunting, target shooting, collection, personal protection, security. Protection from an oppressive government not one of the listed reasons.

The Ukrainian Gun Owners Association put out the following press release, calling for a right to bear arms amendment to the Ukrainian Constitution.

Obama's DHS buys 141,000 rounds of sniper ammo

The Department of Homeland Security is buying more bullets with a solicitation for over 141,000 rounds of sniper ammunition.

According to a solicitation posted on FedBizOpps, the federal agency is looking to procure 141,160 rounds of Hornady .308 Winchester 168gr A-MAX TAP ammunition.

 

Such ammunition is sometimes retailed as “Zombie Max,” a marketing gimmick alluding to its power reports Infowars News.

“What makes the .308 ammunition so deadly is the long range capability of the round,” notes James Smith. “The ability is called ballistic coefficient, or the efficiency of a projectile in overcoming air resistance as it travels to its target. According to Speer Reloading Manual Number 13, the .308 165 grain has the highest coefficient of any hunting rifle.”

 

The latest purchase further illustrates the fallacy of the DHS’ excuse that it is buying bullets in bulk in order to save money.

 

The federal agency will pay around $1.20 for each round, when a lower grain round could be acquired for around a quarter of the price.

 

The DHS has faced questions over the last couple of years as to the purpose of its mass ammo purchases which have totaled over 2 billion bullets, with some fearing the federal agency is gearing up for civil unrest.

 

The majority of the bullets purchased by the DHS were hollow point rounds (one order alone amounted to 450 million of them).

 

Hollow point bullets just happen to be completely unsuitable for training purposes because they cost significantly more money compared to standard firing range bullets, contradicting claims by the DHS that the bullets were merely for training purposes and were bought in bulk to save money.

 

Large scale DHS bulk buys have contributed to ammo shortages across the country.

(Reuters News)  -  Light arms supplied by the United States are flowing to so-called "moderate" Syrian rebel factions in the south of the country and U.S. funding for months of further deliveries has been approved by Congress, according U.S. and European security officials.

The weapons, most of which are moving to non-Islamist Syrian rebels via Jordan, include a variety of small arms, as well as some more powerful weapons, such as anti-tank rockets.

The deliveries do not include weapons such as shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles, known as MANPADs, which could shoot down military or civilian aircraft, the officials said.

The weapons deliveries have been funded by the U.S. Congress, in votes behind closed doors, through the end of government fiscal year 2014, which ends on September 30, two officials said.

The apparently steady weapons flow contrasts with the situation last summer, when lethal U.S. aid to the Syrian rebels dried up for a time due to congressional reservations.

Congress approved funding for weapons deliveries to the Syrian rebels in classified sections of defense appropriations legislation, two sources familiar with the matter said. It was not clear when the funding was approved, but unclassified defense funding passed Congress in late December.

A White House spokeswoman had no comment. Other U.S. agencies did not respond to requests for comment.

The U.S. Postal Service is currently seeking companies that can provide “assorted small arms ammunition” in the near future.

On Jan. 31, the USPS Supplies and Services Purchasing Office posted a notice on the Federal Business Opportunities website asking contractors to register with USPS as potential ammunition suppliers for a variety of cartridges.

“The United States Postal Service intends to solicit proposals for assorted small arms ammunition,” the notice reads, which also mentioned a deadline of Feb. 10 reports Infowars News.

The Post Office published the notice just two days after Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) announced his proposal to remove a federal gun ban that prevents lawful concealed carry holders from carrying handguns inside post offices across the country.

Ironically the Postal Service isn’t the first non-law enforcement agency seeking firearms and ammunition.

• Since 2001, the U.S. Dept. of Education has been building a massive arsenal through purchases orchestrated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
• The Education Dept. has spent over $80,000 so far on Glock pistols and over $17,000 on Remington shotguns.
• Back in July, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also purchased 72,000 rounds of .40 Smith & Wesson, following a 2012 purchase for 46,000 rounds of .40 S&W jacketed hollow point by the National Weather Service.
• Including mass purchases by the Dept. of Homeland Security, non-military federal agencies combined have purchased an estimated amount of over two billion rounds of ammunition in the past two years.
• Additionally, the U.S. Army bought almost 600,000 Soviet AK-47 magazines last fall, enough to hold nearly 18,000,000 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammo which is not standard-issue for either the U.S. military or even NATO.  It would take a Lockheed Martin C-5 Galaxy, one of the largest cargo aircraft in the world, two trips to haul that many magazines.
• A month prior, the army purchased nearly 3,000,000 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammo, a huge amount but still only 1/6th of what the magazines purchased can hold in total.
• The Feds have also spent millions on riot control measures in addition to the ammo acquisitions.

While the government gears up for civil unrest and stockpiles ammo without limit, private gun owners on the other hand are finding ammunition shelves empty at gun stores across America, including shortages of once-common cartridges such as .22 Long Rifle.

Italian gun-maker Beretta USA plans to make Gallatin its manufacturing base in the United States, announcing plans Wednesday to invest $45 million in a firearms plant that will initially employ 300 workers.

Tennessee’s reputation as a gun-friendly state was key to the Sumner County city landing its biggest economic development win since clothing retailer Gap Inc. opened a distribution center two decades ago.

“This is a platinum project,” Gallatin Mayor Jo Ann Graves said. “It’s an international company. It’s well-known, it has an excellent reputation and we’re very excited that they’ve chosen (us) over eight other states,” reports the Tennessean.

As a result of choosing Gallatin, Beretta will be eligible for tax credits, infrastructure and job training grants from the state. Details also are being finalized for a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes grant from Gallatin.

Beretta, meanwhile, is negotiating with Gallatin officials to buy 100 acres at the Gallatin Industrial Center off Airport Road, where the manufacturing and research and development facility will be built. Construction should start by May, with production expected to start during the first quarter of 2015.

The site Beretta is pursuing is part of the 200-acre expansion phase of the Gallatin industrial park. Western Reflections and Laminate Technologies are among tenants in the first phase, which is 90 percent full.

Beretta USA’s choice of Gallatin came after nearly a year-long search for a location to expand U.S. manufacturing outside of Maryland, where the world’s oldest manufacturing dynasty, operating since 1526 in Italy, employs about 350 at a factory in Accokeek. After Maryland passed stricter gun legislation Beretta expressed frustration about the new laws and said it might be looking for a new home for that factory.

The Gallatin plant will make firearms for Beretta’s sporting and tactical product lines. The company is privately owned and operated by members of the 15th and 16th generations of the Beretta family.

• Socialist Democrats are openly pissing on the 2nd Amendment.  California Democrats are attacking the right of the people to keep and bear arms by passing endless Communistic big government regulations to increase the cost of guns and drive gun makers out of business.

On January 22nd renowned gun maker Smith & Wesson joined Sturm, Ruger, & Co.,  announcing it would cease California sales of its semi-automatic pistols due to microstamping requirements that went into effect last year. 

Ruger made the same announcement earlier this month.

Microstamping is a requirement that each firearm be fitted with a special firing pin that leaves a fingerprint on a bullet casing which differs from the fingerprint of every other firearm. In other words--every one of the wildly popular Smith & Wesson M&P .45 semi-automatic handguns would have to be manufactured in such a way so that no two of them left the same mark on a shell casing reports Breitbart News.

The cost of doing this would be incredibly high to manufacturers, and would be a cost they would have to pass on to consumers in higher prices.

Moreover, the result of doing this would be yet another gun registry--every gun sold that met microstamping requirements would have be to registered so that the government knew who owned the gun that left that fingerprint.

On top of these things, micropstamping doesn't even work--and least not all the time. There are proven problems with the durability of microstamps on firing pins.

So The Washington Times reports that Smith & Wesson is just going to stop selling guns in CA for which microstamping is required.

Smith & Wesson president and CEO James Debney said his company "will continue to work with the NRA and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) to oppose this poorly conceived law which mandates the unproven and unreliable concept of microstamping and makes it impossible for Californians to have access to the best products with the latest innovations."

2nd Amendment - Mexican militias take on drug lords

Let's be blunt.  The police cannot and do not protect you.  Police come along after the crime has been committed to write reports and take photos.  You need to defend yourself, and the Mexicans have effectively adopted our 2nd Amendment.

Armed local militias seized a cartel stronghold in the Mexican state of Michoacan on Sunday after a gun battle with suspected members of the notorious "Knights Templar" criminal organization.

The militia members say they took up arms last year because the government did nothing to protect them from the Knights Templar, who extorted local farmers and raped and murdered local women.
 

On its Facebook page, the Tepalcatepec "community police" force said that over 100 vehicles full of armed men took part in the move to occupy the town of Nueva Italia, which was successfully taken after a "light confrontation" at the city's entrance reports the UK Telegraph.

Once inside the town, the vigilantes disarmed local police, who are often accused of working with criminal groups in the state of 4.3 million people.
 

Several Mexican media outlets reported the federal troops in the area observed the incursion but did nothing to intervene.

In the nearby town of Paracuaro, which was taken over on January 4, members of the vigilante groups said on Sunday that they were hunting for a local Knights Templar boss known by his alias, "the Toucan".

On January 7, a group of 300 vigilantes took over Paracuaro. One member was reported killed in the incident, and 11 local police officers were taken into the group's custody.

Several smaller communities in Michoacan's "Tierra Caliente" (Hot Country) region were also taken over by members of civilian militias last week, leaving them in control of much of the area around the city of Apatzingan, which is considered the headquarters of the Knights Templar organization.

On Friday, masked gunmen set fire to Apatzingan's municipal building and looted and burned several local stores.

In a statement, released by Fausto Vallejo, the state attorney general, said that he had asked for additional federal forces to help give local residents "tranquillity and security" and acknowledged the "insufficiency of municipal and even state police".

Similar self-defence organisations have also sprung up in the neighbouring states of Oaxaca and Guerrero.

Drug violence has left more than 70,000 people dead across the country as criminal organizations battle each other and the security forces.

Mexican Vigilantes Stand Up Against Crime

The state of Guerrero (which means "warrior") is one of the poorest in Mexico and the site of some of the worst violence in the battle between the drug cartels and Mexican authorities. As a result of the violence, hundreds of civillians have armed themselves with machetes, rifles, and shotguns, put masks on, and decided to police their own communities, effectively taking justice into their own hands.

Obama Judge Overturns Gun Sale Ban in Chicago

A Federal judge on Monday overturned Chicago’s ban on the sale and transfer of firearms, ruling that the city’s ordinances aimed at reducing gun violence are unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Edmond E. Chang said in his ruling that while the government has a duty to protect its citizens, it’s also obligated to protect constitutional rights, including the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense. However, Chang said he would temporarily stay the effects of his ruling, meaning the ordinances can stand while the city decides whether to appeal.

The decision is just the latest to attack what were some of the toughest gun-control laws in the nation. In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Chicago’s long-standing gun ban. And last year, Illinois legislators were forced by a federal appeals court to adopt a law allowing residents to carry concealed weapons in Illinois, the only state that still banned the practice.

The resulting state law largely stripped city and officials of surrounding Cook County of their authority to regulate guns, which especially irked officials in Chicago, where residents had to apply for concealed-carry permits through the police chief.

National Rifle Association lobbyist Todd Vandermyde applauded Chang’s decision, saying the fact a federal judge appointed by President Barack Obama “ruled in favor of the Second Amendment, shows how out of step and outrageous Chicago’s ordinances really are.”

Chicago last year had more homicides than any city in the nation.

Connecticut gun owners are rushing to register certain firearms and ammunition that will be considered illegal contraband in the new year. 

Under a wide-ranging gun control law passed after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, they have until Tuesday to submit the paperwork with the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

Simply owning a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, like those for a large percentage of modern handguns, now makes you a felon in Connecticut.

First they register the guns. Then they confiscate the guns. Then they do anything they damn well please.

This will happen in every state where the Democrat Party prevails. The camps won’t open until it has happened nationally.

(Denver Post)  -  Magpul Industries threatened to leave Colorado after the legislature passed a measure banning weapons magazines with more than 15 rounds.

And now that is official.

The Erie-based ammunition magazine manufacturer said Thursday it is relocating its operations to Cheyenne and Texas.

Most of the 200-plus employees will be moving to Wyoming, where manufacturing and distribution will take place, said spokesman Duane Liptak.

"Moving operations to states that support our culture of individual liberties and personal responsibility is important," CEO Richard Fitzpatrick said in a news release. "This relocation will also improve business operations and logistics as we utilize the strengths of Texas and Wyoming in our expansion."

The move is expected to happen within the next 12 to 16 months, the company said, and it hopes to relocate at least 92 percent of its workforce outside of Colorado in that time. It hasn't been decided whether every single employee will be moved out of the state.

Employees were notified Thursday about the move, and most are not expected to make the move and will be out of a job, Liptak said.

Paula Mehle, economic development coordinator for the town of Erie, said there is some hope that a small number of employees will remain in Colorado. But, she said, new tenants would be sought for the buildings Magpul vacates.

New York - ‘Immediately Surrender Your Rifle and/or Shotgun’

New York City has started sending out confiscation notices ordering gun owners to “immediately surrender” rifles and/or shotguns capable of holding more than five rounds of ammunition. It is illegal to possess a rifle or shotgun with the capacity to hold more than five rounds in the city, according to NYC Administrative Code 10-306 (b).

Now Fox News reports that gun-rights advocates, as well as one New York state elected official, are angry over the notices, saying that the city is aiming badly with them.

 

 

The demand came in the form of some 500 letters mailed out to owners of registered long guns that are in violation of a 2010 city ordinance.

 

“A gun collector who never fired a gun in his life, but has a few antiques might have to get them altered,” Tom King, president of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, told Fox. “These are not the people law enforcement should be targeting.”

 

“We think it’s an abuse of power by the NYPD,” he said. His organization spent $400,000 on a lawsuit challenging the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act which was signed in January by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

 

New York State Assemblyman James Tedisco (R) voted against the SAFE Act and told Fox News that New York City had the five-round law in the books for about 20 years — but this marks the first time he’s heard complaints about the notices being sent out to gun owners.

 

“These letters appear to be another example of the nanny state,” Tedisco told Fox. “Hypothetically, it can start with a letter, and then that can lead to someone knocking on your door saying, ‘I want to see your gun.’”
