EPA Bans Wood-Burning Stoves

"Thou shalt freeze your ass off"
  • The unelected neo-Fascists at the EPA have waved their imperial wands and banned wood burning stoves from people's homes.
  • Businesses that make stoves, along with their employees, could be forced into bankruptcy.  But that does not matter.  Government workers get paid no matter how they fuck up.

The Environmental Protection Agency recently imposed restrictions on wood-burning stoves that will deal a blow to rural Americans who rely on wood to heat their homes.

Critics charge that the rule changes were enacted following pressure from environmental groups.

The EPA tightened restrictions in January on the level of fine airborne particulate emissions that wood-burning stoves can emit, from 15 micrograms per cubic meter to a maximum of 12 micrograms reports Newsmax.

The EPA restrictions would ban the production and sale of the kinds of wood-burning stoves that compose 80 percent of those currently in use in the United States, Forbes reported.

"Although this is an ancient technology, it can provide a solution for high heating costs in many parts of the country," Laura Huggins, a research fellow for both the Hoover Institution and the Property and Environment Research Center, told Newsmax.

"With up to one-third of this country's energy consumption used for heating, policymakers would be wise to consider the benefits of wood as a heat source," Huggins said.

In the face of tightening economies and rising heating costs, more Americans have been turning to cheaper, archaic sources for heat, especially those in poorer areas.

The number of households heating with wood grew 34 percent from 2000 to 2010, with 2.4 million homes, or 2.1 percent of U.S. housing units, using wood as their primary heating source, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Nearly 10 million additional homes use wood to supplement their primary heat source, the U.S. Energy Information Administration disclosed.

Huggins said environmentalists should cheer the use of this energy source.

"Fuel for wood heating is a renewable resource, and under the right circumstances can be local and sustainable," Huggins said.

But pressure from environmental groups has been responsible for many of the EPA rule changes.

Wood - A Renewable Resource
It's called a tree.  A renewable resource that you could even grow on your own property.  But Big Brother government would rather force you buy petro-chemical products from huge multi-national oil companies who just by chance happen to contribute to the campaign funds of politicians.

Stock up: Final phase-out of traditional light bulbs begins in January

The End of the Edison Light Bulb
The Liberal Fucktards that designed the Obamacare
website have forced highly toxic Mercury laced
light bulbs into American homes.

By Michael Dorstewitz
bizpacreview.com

Thanks to an overreaching federal government, the American public will soon be forced to purchase a product that’s severely overpriced, hazardous to our health and doesn’t live up to all its hype — and I’m not talking about Obamacare.

We now have only a few shopping days left to stock up on a product Americans have relied on for their general household lighting needs almost since its perfection by Thomas Edison 134 years ago — the incandescent bulb. On Jan. 1, it will go the way of the dodo bird.

You must obey your Green Masters.
On Jan. 1, 2012, the manufacture and importation of 100-watt incandescent bulbs were discontinued. A year later, the 75-watt version was put out to pasture, too. 2014 will mark the bulb’s final phase-out — no more 40- or 60-watt bulbs. In their place, we’ll be forced to use either the squiggly-looking compact fluorescent light bulbs or LED lights, according to The Wichita Eagle.

I actually gave the fluorescent bulbs a try a few years ago. I needed a 75-watt bulb and picked out a very expensive GE “Energy Smart” 75, with disappointing results. That’s when I read the fine print.

It wasn’t really a 75-watt bulb — it was a 20-watt bulb with what GE claimed was the light intensity of a traditional 75-watt bulb. Balderdash! It had 25 watts, maybe — not 75.

Not only did the light lack intensity, it’s quality was lousy. Instead of the warm, full-spectrum glow we’ve all become accustomed to, it cast those in its weak glow in a ghastly pallor straight from “Night of the Living Dead.”

That’s when I read the really fine print. If you break one — and who among us hasn’t broken a light bulb — you’re cautioned to retreat from the premises immediately and do everything short of calling in the hazmat team. That’s because they’re packed with mercury.

Even worse, it now appears that the bulbs are hazardous to our health, even if they’re not broken.
.
Germany’s ALAB Laboratory, based in Berlin, discovered two years ago that the bulbs emit carcinogens when turned on, especially for extended periods of time, according to The Telegraph.

“For such carcinogenic substances, it is important they are kept as far away as possible from the human environment,” Peter Braun, who carried out the tests, told the British newspaper. “I, therefore, use them only very economically. They should not be used in unventilated areas and definitely not in the proximity of the head.”

In other words, don’t use them to settle down with a good book. That last chapter may kill you.

Incidentally, the package of that overpriced 20-watt GE “Energy Smart” bulb claimed it “lasts 5 years.” Apparently, that’s only true if you never actually turn it on. Within five months, I was giving it last rites.

That’s when I gave LEDs a try. I bought an inexpensive desk lamp with about 30 tiny light-emitting diodes to illuminate my computer keyboard. Within a few weeks, it turned into a cross between an emergency strobe light and a ‘70s disco ball, with each of the diodes flashing on and off in no particular order. It drove me and my eyes nuts.

When I returned the lamp to the store, I was told my complaint was pretty common.

So Jan. 1 is it, folks. There are some exceptions to the ban, according to The Wichita Eagle, including three-way bulbs, appliance bulbs, grow lights, black lights, yellow bug lights and infrared lamps.

With that, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and may your days be merry and, most of all, bright.

Liberals Oppose Buffalo Sex - And the horror of hunger goes on and on

"Thou Shalt Not Hump"
  • Liberal Conservationists in California have put bison on birth control to prevent new baby bison.  This is considered "enlightened" in a world of hungry people.
  • On the other hand, a Conservative John Muir Conservationist would encourage endless bison humping and the birth of baby bison.  The meat of the "extra" bison would be used to feed hungry children.

Liberalism is a Mental Disorder  -  It is bad enough that Liberals fall all over themselves to abort or birth control every human baby possible.  Now that strange form of mental illness has moved into environmentalism with birth control for buffalo.  Under Liberalism they want just enough buffalo to "look at" in parks but never in large enough numbers so they can be used commercially to feed people.

A contraceptives program launched in 2009 on Catalina Island has been deemed an effective and more humane way of controlling the bison population than relocation, according to a new study by the Catalina Island Conservancy that will be published this month.

The new program is a form of immuno-contraception, using porcine zona pellucida (PZP) applied in a very small dose administered by a dart or syringe.

“It follows the same rules as a vaccine,” Duncan said. “The bison are doing what they were doing before and it’s not causing any difference in hormones or behavior,” reports the Daily Breeze.

The contraceptive has been used for fertility control in zoos, wild horses and white-tailed deer. The females are administered two doses their first year of the program and then one every year after that. This program is more cost-effective and efficient for the biologists, who no longer have to corral the huge animals or find them across the island. The population now is already stabilized at 159 animals.

The program has allowed wildlife biologists to keep population levels that are both beneficial to the herds of bison as well as the ecological health of the island.

“It’s a long-term program,” said Calvin Duncan, a wildlife biologist who co-led the contraceptives effort. “The conservancy is looking to find a balance. The bison have been really ingrained into the culture and the residents love them. Hopefully, this is something that can be considered in other bison herds.”

Bison were introduced to Catalina Island in 1924 for a movie that was never made, but have become somewhat of a historical icon indicative of the island’s wildlife. Over time, the herd grew to more than 600 animals, creating a need to remove bison off the island.

The conservancy had been shipping bison off to auction houses or relocating them to Native American reservations.

Think of the Children
But Liberals refuse to think of the children and would rather
they go hungry than eat buffalo meat.

"I am so hungry and liberal environmentalists
won't let me eat a buffalo burger."

Santa Catalina Island, a closed environment where Liberals can properly control the births and deaths of all living creatures.

Obama's EPA to slash 8,000 jobs in biofuel industry

Comrade Obama - The Job Killer
Obama's EPA fuel mandate will abolish thousands of
Green jobs in the biofuel industry

Comrade Obama, working hard to bring the People's Republic of Venezuela to the U.S.  Now the dumb bastards in the White House are trying to kill the "Green" jobs they claim they want to create.

Advanced biofuel companies say plants will close, risking thousands of lost jobs, if the Environmental Protection Agency proceeds with its proposed renewable fuel mandate.

The agency's proposed draft scaled back the amount of biofuels that refineries must blend into the nation's fuel supply in 2014.
.

Advanced biofuels industry officials say the proposed levels, if finalized, would devastate the booming industry, which includes cellulosic ethanol, sugar cane ethanol and biodiesel reports The Hill.

Biodiesel makes up the largest percentage of advanced biofuels in the marketplace today and is on pace to produce 1.7 billion gallons for 2013.

Production will only go up in 2014, Ben Evans of the National Biodiesel Board told The Hill — that is, if the EPA's proposal does not go through.

The proposal could threaten up to 8,000 jobs, Evans said.

It could also shutter some of the nearly 200 biodiesel plants operating across the nation. Biodiesel is used in mining operations, commercial trucking fleets, and is blended into the diesel fuel supply.
.
An example, Evans said, are drivers of vehicles like the VW Jetta. They could get biodiesel when fueling up at the pump.

The EPA said it lowered the renewable fuel mandate for 2014 because of the blend wall, referring to the highest amount of ethanol that the market could currently accommodate.

When more ethanol mixed fuels are pumped into the market, they have the potential to damage engines and motors in vehicles, lawn mowers, snowmobiles, and more, oil and gas companies claim.

Cheerleader car wash banned by Enviro-Nazis

The Enviro-Nazis Ban Car Washes
"We had to cancel this and all future car washes.”

The People's Republic of California  -  Don't expect to see teens standing on corners waving signs at motorists encouraging them to participate in a school car wash any time soon in San Jose.

While car washes have become a favorite tool for school clubs, teams, cheerleaders and classes to raise funds for trips, uniforms or supplies, the liberal Democrat run city of San Jose is now saying stop.

This is what happened to Lincoln High School cheerleaders  trying to raise money to attend a national competition in April. The San Jose Mercury News reports that local environmental officials warned the high school cheerleaders that their car wash violated the city’s water discharge laws.

“We had a visit from the city of San Jose Environmental Services Department who said that the car washes at Hoover [Middle School] are in violation of water discharge laws, therefore we had to cancel this and all future car washes,” said an email that was sent out to neighborhood email lists on Oct. 18.

“Anything that is not storm water or rain water is considered a pollutant,” said Jennie Loft, acting communications manager for San Jose’s Environmental Services Department.

“If it goes into a storm drain, that pollutant will harm wildlife and habitats in the creeks. Water goes directly from the storm drains into our creeks.”

The city intervened in response to two complaints received about the car wash events Lincoln High Schoolers had been holding at Hoover Middle School. City officials reached out to school and district staff to give them information on how to prevent pollutants from getting into storm drains.

You must obey your Green Masters.

Asked if the city came out in response to complaints, Loft wrote in a follow-up email, "The City of San Jose responded to two complaints, one about a month ago and one last week, re: the Lincoln High School Car wash events held at Hoover Middle School.

"Our staff responds to complaints to ensure that pollutants do not go directly into our storm sewer system since it flows into local creeks, and the SF Bay and Delta.

"As part of our protocol when we received these complaints, our staff reached out to staff at Lincoln High School and San Jose Unified last month to provide information about preventing pollutants into storm drains.

"Our staff also met directly with Lincoln High School Staff last week."

Greens Ban Harmless Fun
The Enviro-Nazis are now preventing community car washes that raise money for charity and other causes.  The hand-wringing Leftists were up all night worried that water with soap in it might get on the ground.  Oh the humanity!
