Obama's NSA spying sends American jobs to Sweden

Obama The Job Killer
  • Brazil gives Sweden's Saab a $4.5 Billion fighter jet contract.  Boeing is cut out in retaliation for Obama's NSA spying on Brazil.
  • “The NSA problem ruined it for the Americans,” a Brazilian government source told Reuters.
  • NSA spying in Brazil had nothing to do with terrorism, but was all about Brazilian plans for oil production.

Brazil has rejected a contract for Boeing’s F/A-18 fighter jets in favor of the Swedish Saab’s JAS 39 Gripens. The unexpected move to reject the US bid comes amid the global scandal over the NSA’s involvement in economic espionage activities.

The announcement for the purchase of 36 fighters was made Wednesday by Brazilian Defense Minister Celso Amorim and Air Force Commander Junti Saito.

Shares in Sweden's Saab jumped almost 30% after it won a $4.5 Billion (£2.7bn) deal to supply the 36 fighter jets to Brazil.

The deal is one of the most valuable ones in emerging markets and Saab had faced competition from rivals Boeing and Dassault Aviation.

Many had expected Boeing or Dassault to emerge as the winner reports BBC News.

The BBC's Gary Duffy in Sao Paulo says Boeing's cause was not helped by a recent row between the US and Brazil over spying allegations.

Obama's NSA was spying on the
President of Brazil and the state
oil company Petrobras.
The US National Security Agency (NSA) has been accused of intercepting emails and messages from President Dilma Rousseff, her aides and state oil company, Petrobras.

David Fleischer, a political scientist at the University of Brasilia, said that Ms Rousseff "had been favouring the Boeing plane and a lot of people thought she would announce her decision during her state visit to Washington".

"Boeing was very close but then the NSA booted them out of the air," he said.

The spying allegations were made by Rio-based journalist Glenn Greenwald, who obtained secret files from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

Just before her address at the UN summit, Rousseff canceled a state visit to Washington, scheduled to take place in October, because of indignation over spying revelations. Rousseff has stated she wants an apology from US President Barack Obama reports RT News.

Snowden has promised to aid Brazil in a probe into the NSA’s spying program in the country.

“A lot of Brazilian senators have asked me to collaborate with their investigations into suspected crimes against Brazilian citizens,” said Snowden, in an open letter published by Brazilian paper Folha de S.Paulo. Snowden hinted in the letter that he may ask Brazil for asylum.

“The American government will continue to limit my ability to speak out until a country grants me permanent political asylum,” wrote Snowden.

The whistleblower is currently under temporary asylum in Russia. Brazil plans to host a global summit on internet governance in April 2014.

Brazil resident Glenn Greenwald, the former Guardian journalist renowned for publishing Snowden’s leaks, criticized on Wednesday European Union governments’ muted response to the revelations about the NSA’s mass surveillance apparatus.  He also contradicted Washington’s claim that no economic espionage is involved amid NSA spying.

“What a lot of this spying is about has nothing to do with terrorism and national security. That is the pretext. It is about diplomatic manipulation and economic advantage.”

Obama could learn from Brazil's growing economy

If Brazil could find a way to monetize their beautiful women they would be the richest nation on earth.

Brazil Has Many Fine Assets
Brazil's economy grew in the 3rd quarter by 2.2%

Attention Comrade Obama  -  Brazil is aggressively developing their oil reserves, growing their economy and working to control inflation.  Maybe you should skip a golf game, fly to Brazil and take a few lessons in economics.

The Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatistica (IBGE) said that Brazil's economy shrank by 0.5% in the 3rd quarter, compared to the previous one.

However, compared with the same quarter last year, the economy grew 2.2% reports BBC News.

Analysts had expected Brazil's economy to shrink by just 0.2%.

The drop was mainly due to the performance of its agricultural industry, which shrank 3.5% between July and September compared with the previous three months.

Andre Perfeito, chief economist at Gradual Investimentos, said he would lower his projections for next year to 2.4% or 2.5% from 2.7%.

Similarly, Flavio Serrano, an economist at Espirito Santo investment bank, said he now expected growth for the full year to be closer to 2.2% or 2.3% than the 2.5% he had previously forecast.

Getting Inflation Under Control

Brazil's central bank has raised its benchmark interest rate to 10% from 9.5%, the sixth time in a row that it has put up borrowing costs.

The latest rise has taken the key rate to the highest level since March 2012.

The rises come as Brazil has been trying to rein in inflation. Consumer prices in the country rose by 5.8% in October from a year earlier, above policymakers' 4.5% target.

Prices have been rising in part due to the fall in the Brazilian currency.

Brazil Cracks Down on Inflation
The American Federal Reserve is printing money by the trillions and keeping interest rates at near zero all to "stimulate" the economy and keep re-electing the incumbent politicians.  While down in Brazil they have been increasing their interest rates (currently to 10%) to put a damper on inflation and protect the long term growth of the economy.

American Inflation is really 9%
The U.S. government claims our inflation is about 1% (red line above).  A total lie as anyone who buys products knows.  The blue line above is the is the true inflation rate based on the methodology which was employed prior to 1980.

Brazil - Communists riot on Bara da Tijuca Beach

Most Brazilians have a more relaxed view of demonstrations.

Communists try to block development of Brazil's oil
  • The anti-oil Communists in Brazil appear to have received their talking points directly from America's anti-oil, pipeline blocking, Dear Leader Obama.
  • The Leftists try to take advantage of legitimate concerns of Brazilians over the the degree of foreign ownership of the nation's resources.

Brazilian protesters clashed with police on Rio de Janeiro's beachfront during a multi-billion dollar oil rights auction that was held in a nearby luxury beachfront hotel.

In the last of a series of violent demonstrations fuelled by black-clad "Black Bloc" anarchists to hit Brazil in recent months, stone-hurling protesters overturned the car of one local TV channel and set it ablaze before being dispersed by police that fired rubber bullets and tear gas.

About 300 demonstrators had gathered to protest against the involvement of foreign companies in Brazil's oil production reports the International Business Times.

Somehow I think Brazilians have
more interesting things to think about
than Marxist attacks on "evil" oil.

They were met by some 1,100 security personnel who had been deployed to protect premises of Hotel Windsor, in the upmarket district of Barra de Tijuca, where government official and oil companies' representative were taking part in the auction for Libra, an offshore field that could hold up to 12 billion barrels of oil.

Sunbathers and tourists watched the chaotic scenes, in which several protesters were injured. Demonstrators later moved in central Rio to demonstrate in fort of the headquarters of state-run oil giant Petrobras.

Rights to right to develop the site were won by the sole bidder: a consortium led by Petrobras and backed Shell, Total, two Chinese firms.

Under a recently approved legal framework Petrobras has been designated as the sole operator of new found oil deposits has to hold a minimum 30% stake in oil blocks.

The company added a 10% stake on top of what it was already entitled. The remaining shares were divided between Shell and Total, each accounting for 20% and Chinese firms CNOOC and CNPC with 10% each.

The auction was described as a success by of the government's National Petroleum Agency.

"It is hard to imagine a more successful outcome. These companies are among the world's 10 most valuable in the energy branch," the agency president, Magda Chambriard told the BBC.

Creating Jobs and Wealth
What a contrast of nations.
.
Brazil - President Dilma Rousseff (a former radical leftist) is doing everything in her power to develop oil fields and create jobs and wealth.
.
USA - Comrade President Obama is doing everything in his power to prevent the development of oil and coal fields and stop the creation of jobs and wealth.

Brazilian Communists line up to take advantage of social unrest.

While Communists were protesting in Rio de Janeiro against auction of the drilling rights to one of the world's largest offshore oil discoveries, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff hailed the auction's outcome, promising that it would bring a "small revolution" for Brazil.

After all, it is Brazil.
If you are a Leftist loon with a screw loose you can parade around in your Che Guevara shirt demanding a Worker's Paradise or you can head to the beach like normal people do.

Democracy in Brazil
Some food for thought.  The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies consists of 21 political parties representing every possible faction of society.
.
While back in the USA the same two corrupt political parties "magically" win 100% of all elections to Congress.  Call me "crazy" but it looks like we need election reform in the U.S.
