Sunday Concert - 80s Flashback - Modern English and Lords Of The New Church

1980s Flashback

It's blast from the past time.  I just love just about all types of 80s music.  Here are two bands that flew under the radar.

Modern English are an English New Wave band best remembered for their songs "I Melt with You", "Hands Across the Sea", and "Ink and Paper". The group disbanded twice, in 1987 and 1991, but reunited again in 1995.

Formed in Colchester, Essex, England, in 1979 by Robbie Grey (vocals), Gary McDowell (guitar, vocals), and Michael Conroy (bass, vocals), Modern English were originally known as The Lepers. The group expanded to "Modern English" when Richard Brown (drums) and Stephen Walker (keyboards) were subsequently added to the lineup of the band.  (Modern English)

The Lords of the New Church was an English/American Gothic rock group with a line-up consisting of four musicians from 1970s punk bands. Launched in 1982, the band had moderate chart success prior to their dissolution in 1989.

Formed in 1982, the band comprised the punk pioneers Stiv Bators (The Dead Boys), Brian James (The Damned), Dave Tregunna (Sham 69) and Nick Turner (The Barracudas). The band recorded three studio albums and one live album before Bators ended the band onstage after a concert in May 1989.

Bators died after being struck by a car in Paris in 1990.

Sunday Concert - Madonna

Madonna.  People love to love her and love to hate her.  (I come down on the love part.)

As for the haters, screw 'em.  To start with they hate her music, but they also hate a strong businesswoman who instinctively knows how to manipulate a moronic media to sell her fame and records.

Madonna has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and 120 million singles.  In the U.S. alone she has produced 55 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and Dance charts.  In 2012, after 30 years singing, she charted three more number one singles.

Madonna is recognized as the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time.  She is ranked by the RIAA as the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century.

Enjoy.
